General Gaming Discussion

I really can’t get into Harvest Moon. Of the games I tried, it just felt like Animal Crossing with less character and customization.
Why won’t Dia-senpai notice me? cries

Which game did you play? The series is VERY hit and miss, to the point where there’s a lot more terrible Harvest Moon ones than great ones. But the great ones really do shine.

Back to Nature, Hero of Leaf Valley, and Innocent Life.

I have been a Harvest Moon fan for a looooooong time (HM:AWL was the second video game I played).

Rune Factory is a precious gem. I mean, seriously. Mixing farming simulation with RPG is not something someone do everyday, and the series did it in such a way that I couldn’t help but get hooked to it.

You should.

Ah, Back to Nature. Sure brings back memories…

Dunno about the other two, but Back to Nature is pretty solid (enough that they ported it and even remade it a few times, I personally played Friends of Mineral Town the most myself).

I’ve spent many many hours on Rune Factory 2 and Frontier myself.

Gw2 & FFXIV -> Decent MMORPGs, nothing amazing, but both have expansion packs in the making, so not a bad time to start.
Black desert -> Haven’t tried this one myself, looks like a good game, but you’ll have to grab and English patch & play on a Korean server.

I’ve just started Persona 3, a little late to the party, but better than never I guess. It’s quite rare for me to play anything single player with legitimate gameplay since it’s quite difficult for me to immerse myself into most fictional environments. Aside from that, Starcraft II as per usual, greatest competitive video game ever made along with BW. The only game that I’m looking forward to is Star Citizen, which is scheduled for release in 2016 iirc. I hope that lives up to the hype. Also, I’ve been meaning to give H1Z1 a shot, but a little hesitant as I am a complete noob to the hardcore survival genre.

Whoa, whoa, they’re all too heavy for my PC. Couldn’t you recommend something more lightweight (Ragnarok Online for example)?

Hmmm, I haven’t played too many MMORPGs lately, the only other one that comes to mind is Dragon Nest, which is okay at best imo. Sorry, I can’t be of much help.

I see… Too bad.

If GW2 and FFXIV are too taxing for your computer (they can run on really quite low end machines - gw2 even on integrated graphics, it’s more cpu dependent) then you’re not going to find a good mmorpg by today’s standards that you can run.

It doesn’t have to be new. Old games would do, as long as they’re fun (I have low standards).

hmm soe MMOs that arent that heavy for a pc you say.
Well I have al ot of them in my collection.
Try Elsword online or Cabal online.
Lets see other MMORPGs depends on what kind of style you want them to be. If you want more… lets say grinding, dungeon like, or more adventure like or more action combat based (FPS ish combat included). Please do tell me what kind of MMOs you are looking for and Ill help you as best as I can, my list is just too big to name all of them and I dont want to spam.

I’m a masochist, so I want more grinding.

Ohohoho a grinder type, mmmmmmmmmm
Okay lets see, according to my list Cabal online, Loong online, Jade Dynasty, Aion, Seal online, Eden Eternal and Runescape, or if you want to go for a really old mmorpg you can try metin2.
Those are MMORPGs you should run on your pc, they are quite old so it shouldnt be such a problem. Unless you have like a pc from middle ages ;P. Also on a side note, those are all MMORPGs I have played, and the only one I havent is “sevencore online”… it should be pretty grindy, but I cant really confirm since I havent played it, might check it out :p.
The Bold ones are my favorites for grinding.

Here are some mid heavy grinding mmos you MIGHT run, not sure. Dragon nest, Vindictus (they are more action based, but are also grinding based a lot)

And then if by any chance you get a better pc and want some cool looking game with elements of grinding you can go for TERA (heavy) or Neverwinter (middle).

Also there are also 2 mmos that I remember playing, but Im not really sure if I can solidly call them “grind” MMORPGs, but who knows may you will like them. It is the Perfect World and Aura Kingdom.

I tought it wouldnt look like a spam but it does… oh well I hope this helps.
Anyways if you want any other MMOs just say so. Ill be more than happy to help.

Now that’s quite a list.

I like it. =D

Going to try the bolded ones first and if I find any game(s) that suits me, will continue to play them and grind my ass off.

Thanks, you’re the best. b(^_-)

First time posting in the gaming discussion thread!

Right now I’m working my way through a few games. I just replaced the batteries in all of my pokemon cartridges, and am playing through Pokemon Red doing a Nuzlocke run (not my first). I’m also working on Pokemon Crystal, so I can eventually tackle Pokemon Stadium 2. If you couldn’t tell already, I’m a true blue pokefan.

I also recently got back to playing Shovel Knight. I love this game soooo much! The music is absolutely amazing. I would say I almost think of it as an album that happens to come with a great game, as well. This is my first play through, but I can see myself going for a New Game+ run and maybe even trying a no-death run in the future. It’s a great time!

And, of course, Hearthstone. At this point, Hearthstone is like the gaming fluid that all of my other gaming is suspended in. I probably don’t play on the ladder as much as I should, but I watch a lot of streams and am pretty active in the reddit community. I consider myself an aggro specialist, and I really prefer decks like face hunter, aggro paladin, and face warrior. Right now I’m working on tweaking and learning an aggro warrior deck that I’ve had moderate success with on the ladder.

My Battle.net handle is RationalPi#1895 and my Steam account name is therationalpi.

I knew there are people playing HS on kaza. I would totally like to play with you, but the problem is that we may be on different servers :/.
Anyways, rush decks are fun, but it sucks if mage flamestrikes you just or some clear board cards are really depressing to play against.
Note: I love playing in the arena :3. THE MONEEYAAAH WHEN YOU GET 12 WINS WOOO

I have an account on each server, but I don’t play all of them too much. Could always go for some silly decks :stuck_out_tongue:

Oldschool gamers has the best tastes, you clearly are one of them. Game Boy Color is still awesome and brings a lot of memories, I dont think it would be weird since you can get really anything in your dreams. Maybe you missed the times when you had a game boy (if you had one) or something I cant really tell.
[/quote]My first (and only) handheld game console was a Game Boy Advance. My first game for it was Golden Sun, which I played to death and it helped cement my love for both JRPGs and Sakuraba’s music. I got a few other games here and there for it, including Link to the Past, which was my first Zelda game and remains one of my favorites. I lost the privilege to use it when I was seven, and I wasn’t able to get it back for ten years. I still have it in my room, but I hardly use it anymore (thanks to both my PS2 and my PC).

Aside from my GBA, I also had an old PC that had a few games on it that I remember fondly. There was Blake Stone: Planet Strike (which was a Wolfenstein 3D clone), Muppet Treasure Island, the original Rayman, and a couple others that I cannot remember off the top of my head. I turned to emulation when I was entered high school, and discovered a lot of retro games that I still fondly remember, like Fire Emblem Gaiden, Soul Blazer, The Adventures of Hourai High, Tales of Phantasia, and Monster World IV. When I got my PS2, I started using emulation less often and started collecting PS2 and PS1 games. Later I started collecting Saturn and Dreamcast games in order to find a reason to cheaply emulate various RPGs and Visual Novels.

I don’t look back on the past very often, but maybe I am neglecting the old indigo brick a bit. The main problem is finding a good game to play on it. I’ve played virtually everything worth playing on the GBA, so I can’t find a reason to pick it up again.

Maybe I’ll start posting here on a semi-regular basis, just talking about various games ‘n’ stuff.

Even though I haven’t touched it for a week, I was playing a lot of Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth1. I had been meaning to pick it up on the Vita but never got around to it, so having a chance to get it on the PC for ten bucks was a steal. Bits of fanservice aside, I really quite enjoyed the game once combat picked up. It’s pretty heavy on grinding, but that’s a big plus for me personally. Dialogue can be charming at times, and gives something to look forward to between grinding segments. Probably my biggest gripe is with the amount of recycled enemies and environments. I don’t mind seeing some recolors and what not, but it can be laid on pretty thick here. Overall, I’d recommend this game only if you can stand grinding, otherwise you’ll probably just end up dropping it before too long. If you’re on the fence, just wait 'til it goes on sale. Also I finally figured @IFOfPlanetune out, so I suppose that’s a plus. Did you forget a ‘p’ in your name?

Buuuuuuut, the reason I totally stopped dead with Neptunia (even though I’d love to still play it) is because Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate finally came out over here! I actually got a Japanese 3DS to play the game early, but my hype has been totally renewed getting a chance to replay the game with all my friends. The two new weapons, Insect Glaive and Charge Blade, are designed so well that I feel they almost eclipse the other weapons in terms of fun. Seriously, Charge Blade has to be the most satisfying weapon in the game. That said, I’ve been trying something totally new this time around and playing only using the Hunting Horn, and it’s been a very fresh experience. At this point I’m right at the cusp of G rank, and that’s when the everything really picks up. Honestly, I can’t recommend this game enough. It’s got enough content to last you forever. Feel free to PM me if you’d like to play. My NNID is in the accounts topic.

I was also playing a bit of Starbound for pretty much the first time with my friend a couple weeks ago. I’ve actually owned it since it was released (gifted to me) but never got around to playing it. It was pretty fun but… well, it just felt lacking compared to Terraria. Inventory management was especially horrid, and the semi-forced progression, even though you could argue it in Terraria as well, didn’t gel with me. My verdict is that it’s alright, but I can’t shake the feeling that I’d be having a better time elsewhere.

I’ve also been reading a picture playthrough of Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War (FE4). Without spoiling anything, I have to say that “that moment” was really powerful. Like, normally I don’t care much for the story in Fire Emblem games, but holy crap you really feel for the characters here. Just getting around to the second generation stuff now. This game seems really fun, and I seriously can’t wait to play it. I’ll get around to it soon, hopefully.

Other than that I’m probably going to start playing Elsword again. I’ve got an itch for some PvP, even though I’ll get totally bodied. Back to the ol’ leveling grind, I guess.

I actually had two cartridges of A Link to the Past on my GBA, and both ended up deleting my saves after I had gotten pretty far into the game. Never finished the game due to that. I have no idea why both of 'em did that, but man, it was a downer.

Personally, I never had a Game Boy Color. That said, I loved Pokemon Gold to death, and I know I had a few other color games that I’m forgetting. Probably my favorite Game Boy games were the Fire Emblem titles, Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga, Pokemon Ruby, the Kirby games (Amazing Mirror being my favorite), Minish Cap, and Shining Soul II. I’m sure that stuff is missing, but these games had the crap played out of 'em. Fire Emblem in particular is a series that I endlessly love. It’s pretty funny to look back at how bad I was playing those games back then.
