Charlotte - Pre-Release Discussion & Speculation

No more people screaming “asspulls” or “cheap tricks” which is good for the story :stuck_out_tongue:

well, I don’t know about the “cheap tricks” tho

I can only wonder what sort of shit they’ll pull for the charlotte page. But hey, that information, whether true or not, is usually good for a laugh :stuck_out_tongue:

Anyways, one other thing that seemed to slip through peoples’ minds is the yet another reference to the stars. The academy, Hoshi no Yume, literally means “Sea of the Stars” (which looks a lot like the charlotte poster I am looking at right now). Once again, what do the stars have to do? Could they be a source of power to these people?

And again, who the heck is Charlotte :stuck_out_tongue:

Also, what exactly is the significance of ZHIEND in the anime? I’m starting to think that this band has literally nothing to do with the school, and might just simply be a band that Nao likes to listen to. But I mean, come on, it’s Maeda we’re talking about here. They definitely have more significance than that!
Might have to do with the name sounding like “The End”

Man all this talk about powers and battles are making me see so many connections to Rewrite. Maybe Maeda really wanted to be part of that project? lol

I was just about to say. Doesn’t this feel like a sequel to the Terra route of Rewrite to anyone? Nothing to spoil, but people who’ve read it will immediately understand what I mean. Maybe Yuu is searching the skies for pochi and the others.

…joking aside, this really does feel like Maeda’s substitute for a Rewrite anime, much like Angel Beats! served as a substitute for a Little Busters! anime at the time. And that kind of worries me, as someone who would love a Rewrite anime.

Come to think of it, it DOES seem just a bit pretentious, and if there is anything Terra is…

I’ve got all the Little Busters early art designs scanned if people wanted that, Don’t think I can start topics though. The alternate CGs are pretty nice to see too.

I promised myself that I wouldn’t get involved with this thread because I wanted to go into Charlotte as blind as possible, but at this point I’m getting involved anyway.
I’ve already mentioned my thoughts about PA Works producing it and Jun Maeda composing the music, both of which are still great choices.
With the new little bit of news I got about it with some reveal of the other characters, I’m beginning to see it come together. One of the things I love about Key works is the focus on a relatively larger cast (something I’ll admit Air failed at), and with the reveal of a few of the supporting characters along with the two leads, I see this coming together nicely. Also, with the mention of supernatural abilities that appear to be unique to each individual gives it a supernatural aspect fairly similar to Angel Beats!, and I’m curious to see how it’ll work.

Speaking of the two supporting characters…

Please please please please be a plot point for romantic development

I’m sure even if they’re not canon couple, people will still ship them together! (although that depends on how the writers tell the story)

Actually, given my tendency to ship characters in damn near anything I watch, I will most likely end up shipping it if they don’t become an actual couple.

Now for the usual tragedy thing… Since they released the information about our characters’ powers, my guess the tragedy would be something related to their powers, like…

Yu went into some other’s body and he can’t return.

Nao can’t be seen by someone she loves, forever. Oh glob the pain.

Yusa’s sister takes over her body because things… Probably traumatic event like what happened with a certain character in Grisaia or a certain character in Little Busters!

Well damn. Coming from one who makes theories on a relatively regular basis, that’s rather impressive. I can see that being a definite possibility, and we’ll see how well it holds up.

Turning into Hyouka. Ruh roh.

Cool theories. But you forgot one thing: usually all the backstories are related somehow, (yeah, I know all your theories are related to the powers, but I’m not talking about this), they usually share a common theme: like family in CLANNAD or overcoming the tragedies of your past in Angel Beats!..

Well, a speculation or two won’t hurt…

Sharing the common theme in their past works, doesn’t mean they will for the next series too. IMHO, like Little Busters! where the theme is friendship, that theme didn’t really established in other heroines route. Basically most of the time the other characters just disappear, leaving only Riki and the heroine (and a little bit of Kyousuke) as focus

That is a good point, though. What is the overall theme of charlotte? For some reason I doubt it’s “dealing with the strain of being given newfound powers” because that isn’t something people can generally relate to. Key’s winning formula is that they are able to make their stories relatable.

That being said, I’m kind of at a loss as to what theme is being planned >_<

(please be romance)

What about loneliness?

That could work. Nao’s power is definitely a huge buildup for this. And the whole having powers thing could imply that they are being ostricized from society somehow.

It also fits kind of well with the stars theme as space is a very very lonely place

Sort of… I see what your saying, but isn’t Nao’s power to disappear from the view of just one person at a time? I just don’t think she’d feel lonely on account of her power when all 6,999,999,999 other people in the world can still see her.

If you live in a house with only one person or are in a room with only one person, and you can’t really control your power, it’d get really cringing, I think.

Or even if you’re not in a place with one person, but if you want to participate in class, and you somehow find that the teacher can’t see you at all, you’re stuck.

Not saying it’ll happen, but it’s definitely a possibility

Yeah like I said, I see your point. And I think those are some great examples. I also keep forgetting that they’re making it sound like a bunch of them can’t control their powers. And I think it could be a viable theme for the rest of of them.

I’m struggling on whether or not I think they’ll push for loneliness due to

[/quote] because that was a theme I felt pretty strongly with Angel Beats. Especially with Yuri and Brave Song. I don’t know, maybe no one else felt that same kind of feeling with AB!
