We mark this day in history where all Angel Beats! characters have topics and most people here more than likely have all their names memorized finally- But my mission is only beginning. More changes soon to come!
Why don’t you make it?
Because then you’ll get mad with me
Like that’d stop you. -A-
Ummm… what…? I honestly have no idea what you mean by that…
Have you forgotten the major plot point of the entire last arc of Angel Beats? (Ending of Angel Beats spoilers)
The last arc of the anime revolves around Otonashi fulfilling the love, that should not exist in that world, to everyone in it so they can move on.
Which I guess makes him anime Jesus…
No that’s Tatsuya-kun.
Ok, after thinking about it, I think I understand what you mean about Otonashi’s existance in the world.
1) Otonashi doesnt even help most of the SSS members in the anime, only Kanade and Naoi for sure, probably Hinata and maybe Yuri.
2) The “love should not exist” part is not a rule of the world. It is a rule set by an regular person who had come to that world a long time ago. Also, the love that Otonashi fulfilled was not the love that activated the shadow program. The former is a love that (as you said) would cause people to be able to move on, while the latter is one that would cause people to want to stay in the afterlife.
Indeed, but the idea is his presence there catalysed an otherwise stagnant world. In a similar fashion it not being ‘a rule of the world’ is unimportant, it really doesn’t matter whether he was intended to be their and help people or not. Merely that he was, and did. That’s something I’m certain the narrative supports, even if it is quite a mess at the arc we’re talking about. And I would also argue that he did both during his time there.
Whether that counts as Key magic or not would be an argument of semantics. So if you’re not sold on it that’s fine, but I am pretty certain you should at least have an understanding of how it can be considered it.
It doesn’t really matter to me whether AB! involves “Key magic” because I will enjoy it the same amount either way.
I’m just waiting for the VN to make everything clear (I’ll probably be waiting a long while, won’t I?)
Anyway, Angel Beats! is one of my favorite Key works. I wish it had been a longer anime.
I should probably read the manga, but I am not a fan of manga at all, and I find it a chore to read.
Iya iya iya. You misunderstand. The Heaven’s Door is a critical part of Angel Beats! If you like the series as much as you say you do, reading the manga is a must. (Plus a lot of us think its better than the anime so… XP )
I know I could probably get through it since I do love Angel Beats!, but it’s very difficult for me to describe how much I really dislike manga. I need the voices, and the color, and the music.
I’ve tried reading manga dozens of times but I rarely make it past 10 chapters.
The farthest I ever got was Tokyo Ghoul, about 30 chapters.
Well, Hinata’s the main character, right? I love Hinata, so maybe that will fix everything.
As much as I like Heaven’s Door it doesn’t really do anything that would get someone who really doesn’t like manga to get into it. You might have an easier time because you know a bit about the characters and setting already but if you’ve ever seen an anime then tried reading the manga before it will probably end up the same.
I have this problem with Manga. I can’t put on music or something because I’ll end up focusing on that more than the Manga. I can’t sit in silence and read because I get bored really quickly. It’s hard T_T
I just half-heartedly speed read most of it.Maybe I’d need to care more for the AB cast to get into it.
I guess we’re living in a time where all this sensory stimulation makes reading feel empty…
But I also implore you to read Heaven’s Door @Rippleshadow; it adds a LOT to the world of Angel Beats.
It’s worth reading, even if it’s only to learn about the characters that aren’t really developped in the anime such as Irie, sekine and TK.
I love reading novels, but that’s because I love language and gives you a completely different version of it’s movie equivalent. With manga I feel like I’m reading a watered-down version of anime. The only advantage I really see from reading the manga is a) there is no anime adapted from it or b) the pacing is better or plot is executed more efficiently.
The latter doesn’t bother me, but since there is no other form of Heaven’s Door other than the manga, I can see the value in reading it.
I think the novel Track Zero goes into the past. I haven’t read it so I have no idea if it’s the same or if it even has an English translation.
Track Zero follows the same plot, yes, but it kinda stopped… Heaven’s Door has continued long past Track Zero.
