Rewrite - Anime Pre-Release Discussion & Speculation

If anyone ever reaches Asia…
I want them to find Baba on japan…
Find Baba crouching all by himself…
I want them to walk up to him…
and ask him about the episode count…
That is…
My only wish…

Pretty sure that’s up to aniplex though ;p

President Baba knows the ep count, he is a part of the production committee!

Well, yeah, I guess he would probably know
But he doesn’t have control over it, likely

That is true

I just want to know the ep count already ;-;

Clannad was given 2 seasons and 47 episodes by Kyoto Animations, and Little Busters! was given 2 seasons and 39 episodes by JC Staff. Kanon was given 20+ episodes also by Kyoto Ani.

In this case, let’s hope that they give the Clannad and Little Busters treatment to Rewrite by 8-bit, give it 2 seasons and 30-40+ episodes. Frankly, I heard that in Angel Beats!, there was this issue brought by Jun Maeda where the producer did not give more episodes and only gave 13, and I feel that Charlotte was too short.

I haven’t read Grisaia, and don’t know how well 8-bit adapted it, but knowing that 8-bit gave 2 seasons and a movie for it, (I’m not sure what those Eden or Fruit of Gisaia or Labyrinth were, correct me moar knoweldgeable peoples here), perhaps there’s fairly a good chance that Rewrite might get 2 seasons. (*≧▽≦)~

This is just purely speculation, so don’t beat me up if I happen to be wrong ~.ヘ(゚∇゚ヘ)

Pretty poor. According to this Grisaia no Kajitsu is longer than Rewrite. [quote=“KotoriKanbe, post:211, topic:2127”]

Labyrinth is the 2nd VN and Eden is the 3rd. While those 2 are shorter they pretty much crammed 3 VNs into about 25 episodes (13+10+1 hour special).

My personal prediction is that this run (summer 2016) will only be 1 cour. There might be a possibility of a season 2, but it wouldn’t be during Fall 2016…

Just a prediction~~

maybe split cour since that seems like a trendy thing they do nowadays… unless its just that I haven’t been watching anime for that long

Guess I’ll give my two cents on how Rewrite might be adapted. Keep in mind that I haven’t read Akane, Moon or Terra yet so my opinion might change. With that being said, my speculation is that they might adapt it to either 44 episodes like KyoAni did with Clannad or they will adapt to about 36 or so episodes like how JC did with Little Busters.

Now in terms of what order the arcs might be adapted, I would say they’re going to do the common route and in between cover Lucia’s arc first as her arc begins the earliest . If not Lucia’s arc then definitely Kotori’s arc. Then we have the end of the common route/arc,where the Leaf Dragon fight and the big revelation occurs . After that and assuming that they adapt Kotori or Lucia’s arc immediately after common, they are probably going to adapt Chihaya’s arc next. After that is Akane’s arc and then finally, they will adapt Shizuru’s arc before Moon and Terra.

Now which cour/season will cover which really varies but I would say the first season will probably try to cover Common, Lucia, Kotori, and Chihaya and then the second season will cover Akane, Shizuru, Moon and Terra. Or option 2: they will try to adapt all the arcs minus Moon and Terra in the first season in the speculated order and then adapt Moon and Terra for the second season.

Shizuru (your avatar) pretty much crushed my hopes ~. Look she’s also sad. I thought that the 3 Eden, blah blah blah and Grisaias are the same visual novel, that there is also 1 VN only and that they adapted to 2 seasons and 1 movie. Guess understandable moar (no, moar understandable) why people think 8-bit’s adaptation of the vn is bad, that it’s 3 VNs into 25 episodes (The horror).

Guess I’ll just cling to a Little Busters or Clannad treatement like JC Staff and Kyo Ani. Actually Kyo Ani should have done these one, one with experience and track record in adapting Key works. But, since studio is now announced, there’s no more turning back orz

I say that the best way to adapt Rewrite would probably to literally rewrite the plot, and deviate from the original VN, only adapting the gist. After reading Rewrite comprehensibly, I concluded that it’s a Vn that cannot be adapted as an anime through copy-paste.

I haven’t read the second two but from what I’ve heard they are short and were decently adapted.

KyoAni has mainly been doing 12/13 episode series and movies lately with their last 2 cour series being Hyoka in 2012. Chuni, Free and Hibike all got second seasons though.

I wonder how the prevalence of action scenes is going to figure into this adaptation. Like, part of me wonders if this is going to turn into a straight-up action anime with some story bits thrown in.

Let’s just hope that we won’t get any 3eps long fights I hope that important fights like Esaka’s will be directed well and get the atmosphere we had in the VN

Part of the difficulty in adapting Rewrite is it’s too many genres in one. Common Route is essentially spice of life and comedy. Then, there’s the action and fighting stuff. There’s also the romance aspect and love. Then, there’s usual Key feels and Utsuge stuff, and Angel Beats! crying. There’s also the mind screw stuff like the conflict between the Catholic Guardian and the Gaia Corporation, and the evolution creation reevolution salvation stuff in Terra and Moon that I still cannot comprehend. There’s also the horror moments, the suspense, thriller, and also some softcore fanservice ~.

Any anime studio going to adapt Rewrite needs to bring all of that into a singe anime. So, it shouldn’t turn into an action anime since Rewrite is not an action visual novel, though good and awesome action fights are essential, just not over-spam them in the anime.

I think they should do 48 episodes divided into two seasons, Rewrite is key’s longest VN.
They should show a little bit of the Moon route at the first 30 secs of episode 1 then adapt the common route in 4-5 episodes, and then go straight to Kotori’s route, some comedic scenes will be left out but they can do it in later episodes like the case of Clannad and Little Busters, in these two we had episodes in the middle of the show that adapted certain comedic scenes from the common route.

if you’ve read Moon then you know that each route is a branch so they can just switch to the other branch after a route is over, the anime can just show the clock spinning at the end of each route so the anime-onlys wouldn’t know about the theory early on
it will make things a little bit obvious for anime onlys but its the only way to make a good Rewrite anime

I have the same opinion Zaydgh98 but I believe that the anime must begin like the VN with the monologue of Kotarou. This will probably not seem very clear to the watchers at first but it is essential to help define his character.
Otherwise, the first impression will be Kotarou is carefree and the monologue will not have the same impact if it is at another time.

I hope that the route of Chihaya will be the third or fourth adapted, it would keep a little mystery about her and Sakura when she will appear in the route of Lucia or Shizuru.

The thing I hope for the most is Romeo Tanaka fixing the plot holes in Chihaya’s route

Could you tell me which plot holes you are talking about?
