Well, for a character who didn’t even get a sprite, Mutsumi clearly displayed the qualities of a heroine in the short time she was given.
She kept watching her crush from a distance.
She was too shy to confess to him just like that.
But when he came to talk to her, she didn’t pretend that all of it was a misunderstanding and maintain the pathetic status quo. Instead, she pulled together all her courage and confessed right then and there.
And when she found out he’s in love with a different girl on the very next day, she didn’t act butthurt and wished him to find happiness instead.
Bad people may say she did that cause she was weak and gave up too easily, but she clearly had her act together and only few girls would be able to act so mature in her situation.
Oh, and let’s not forget that she was hanging out with those bullies Katsusawa and Takamiya, yet she neither became their victim nor did she let them poison her.

I’ve liked Suginami before it was cool since the VN, nice girls are nice girls.
I was actually pretty hype to see how the Anime would make her look, I believe it’s the first time she got a face, didn’t disappoint, very plain and cute, quite fitting.
Daily reminder that Real!Suginami hasn’t confessed and still has her feels bottled up.

I don’t recall the crush being mentioned when she was with team bitches and whores during the Kurugaya route.

Eh? Wasn’t she protesting quite a bit when they started to rope Riki into the nonsense? I remember something like that happening… And something about being jealous of Kurugaya being around Riki…

Other than her protesting that the unkawaii pigdogs may want to cut back a bit on being unkawaii pigdogs, I don’t remember anything else she said.
Freshen up your memory then. The reason why Takamiya and Katsusawa pulled her into the entire Kurugaya bullying thing was because Kurugaya was technically also Mutsumi’s enemy, precisely because she was around Riki so much. And whenever Mutsumi asked them to them stop, that was exactly their counter argument.
Additionally, during Kurugaya route, Riki had suspected that Mutsumi might like him. But he didn’t pry into the matter, saying:
If you can’t even understand someone’s feelings but still assume they like you,
you must be either a hell of a guy or a hell of a fool.
