I remember it being the total opposite. EU mocked NA for having slow boring games, whereas NA mocked EU for having messy hectic games. EU are the region known for base races, backdoors, barons, and massive turnarounds. NA only ever gets that when TSM and CLG face off.
This year they just got better at it. EU figured out how to play aggressive, and NA… got even more boring.
The Paris audience is the best, but this time the casters ended up introducing some stupid things that got overplayed a lot. The fog horns, the teamfight cheers, and the Sparta chants… They’re all great. The cheering when someone wards… It was okay at first. The crowd waves and the Twitch memes were annoying though.
The European audiences are generally good. Look at the EU playoffs that were in Spain. The crowd made the trashy games entertaining. Maybe it’s because I’m in England, but that kind of stuff, even the annoying parts, are what make a live event. I’d forget the NALCS was even a live event if they didn’t hold post-game interviews.
So I was actually wondering. Who are you rooting for now out of the remaining teams?
I’m rooting for EDG atm I guess cause I don’t want another Korean team to win and Fnatic already won a worlds before and finally they’re a Chinese team : P
In my opinion, the paris audience is the worst. The audience needs to know its place. This is not a rock concert where, if the crowd is not being loud, you’re doing it wrong. This is about the game and the players, not about noisy people going “look mommy, I’m on TV!” all the damn time.
They’re shouting when action is going down.
They’re shouting when no action is going down.
They’re shouting at completely random times.
I’m actually interested in the match. I wanna hear the game. I wanna hear what the analysts say. But I’m having trouble doing so due to a bunch of noisy people showing off the durability of their vocal cords.
And don’t tell me it’s a good thing that every goddamn interview has to be interrupted at least 6 times because too many guys can’t stop yelling like madmen for longer than 20 seconds.
There’s a difference between creating a lively atmosphere and being loud for no reason.
I’m rooting for Fnatic. They have rebuilt an old team almost from scratch with rookies and now they’re leaving a deep impression everywhere they go. You can make a sports anime out of their story!
And their play is just so good. They used to be quick and aggressive in the summer split, calculative and precise in the spring split, and now… I haven’t really figured out their current playstyle, but it seems like they’ve put the best parts of both splits together. They’re really scary when they can perform to 100% of their ability.
Whoever is on my Pickem for that match. I don’t really like any of the teams left.
OG>FW
SKT>AHQ
FNC>EDG
KT>KOO
SKT>OG
KT>FNC
SKT>KT
As I said before, they are usually great. This time they went overboard with the sillyness.
This is great imo.
This not so great
And depending on the quality of the game, this can be either funny or annoying.
The audience are never more than background noise. It shouldn’t be hard to ignore them.
That depends on the interview. The Dyrus or PaiN ones are good examples of it being kinda nice, but stuff like the OG one yesterday were annoying. It makes the pros smile though, so that’s cool.
I think that if Fnatic can beat EDG, they’ll beat whoever comes next, regardless of whether it’s KOO or KT. (same for EDG if they win)
Getting through EDG will be the hard part. FNC will have to go all-out against them and they can’t afford to make any mistakes. So I’m very curious to see today’s matches.
The quarterfinals proceeded exactly as I predicted them in my Pick’em. I’m expecting the finals to be SKT vs FNC.
I didn’t expect EDG to go down so easily, though.
Looking forward to the semifinals. Huni is a monster on Riven. But so is Smeb on Fiora. I wonder if we’ll see that exact matchup… (it would make more sense for them to ban those champs)
Origen can’t beat SKT, but they’ll try regardless. I wonder what kind of strategy Peke will come up with this time.
KT forgot how to pick and ban apparently. Really disappointed in Ssumday and Nagne. Piccaboo is apparently still getting ready for the “boo” portion of his name. It’s like the players on the team all did reversals in quality of play.
I think in a Huni Smeb matchup, it’d go how you expect. Huni is too inconsistent compared to Smeb imo.
Am I the only one here who doesn’t want SKT to win the worlds?
it’s not like I hate SKT, marin is one of my favorite players… it’s about SKT’s fans… some of them are really annoying
