Oh damn, I was found out… You know way too much now, Mae…

Well, I was too lazy to write down the whole thing and wasn’t sure if ppl would get what does “Shuumatsu” means.

Tsuki ga Kirei is pretty good. Light hearted, and fun. Too bad my school life was nothing like that!!

I wrote a bit about Tsuki ga Kirei. Definitely one of the better shows this season.

Another beautifully titled show, presumably based on the famous translation methods of Natsume Soseki. Love it, good name.

Tsuki ga Kirei is a fairly simple romance tale. Young kids, just becoming teenagers, just starting to get interested in people of the opposite gender, and being shy about it. Great period of life to look at, and one that is surprisingly uncommon in anime. I know manga authors love that initial break of puberty, but we anime viewers don’t get much of that. We’re more of a teens-midway-through-school group. Anyway, what sets this show apart from the rest of the school romance stuff is presentation. Tsuki ga Kirei is enchantingly beautiful, and I adore it.

This show manages to be ugly and endearing at the same time. It’s rather impressive. Ah, wait… You know what it reminds me of? Those McDonald’s commercials. If not for all the CG people derping around, it’d be amazing. As I said though, the visual presentation is endearing despite flaws.
The visuals aren’t perfect, and while it has a nice style, it isn’t always on point, even in key scenes such as the confession scene. So why do I say the presentation sets this show apart from the rest? The somewhat pretty visuals matter naught in comparison to everything else. There are multiple factors at work here.

The pacing of this show is great. It has the beauty of shows like Usagi Drop or Wandering Son, you could even liken it to a Shinkai film in that way. This is due in part to well-placed moments of scenery stills. An overview of a school, or a look at the moon, or a flow of water. These beautiful shows of scenery are weaved within the large gaps and pauses of dialogue, something that comes up consistently, as expected of an awkward teen love story. The characters will pause, maybe having nothing to say, maybe too nervous to say anything, or they might just be lost in thought. But in those moments of silence we get something pleasing, whether it be pretty imagery or euphonious background music. And boy is there a lot of great music in this show, fitting of the sweet slow nature the rest of the show presents.

There’s a bit of a love triangle thing in there, and I’m never fond of that stuff, it just hurts to watch… But hopefully it doesn’t become too central to the show.
So yeah, if you like a show that really engrosses you… If you like a heartfelt romance show… This is the one to watch.

Yea. I actually like the art style. The color pastel like style is nice, and I am not as fond of the modern popping 3d art style that you often see.

And the love triangle really irks me… The two mains are great!! But the love squares? triangles? whatever you call it just really makes me want to punch them in the face…

If you guys are still looking for good shows this season, then I must recommend Welcome to the Ballroom. It’s definitely not for those who dislike standard shounen-sports stories or are too bothered by its exaggerated character designs (necks!), but HOLY LORD THE SAKUGA. THE SAKUGA. The animation is just so impressive, it succeeds at giving the characters a lot of life and personality to them. And apart from a brief snippet, it hasn’t even gotten to the dance competitions yet, so I don’t know how much spectacle I can take. The episode has some still frames here and there, but I hope that means that they’re pouring the sakuga budget in the right places rather than the visuals possibly falling apart in the future.

I’ve read the manga and the episode is still not in the best part of the story yet, but if this debut is any indication I have very high hopes for this show. Also, like most of the manga fans, I am especially waiting for best girl Chinatsu to appear.

The other shows I’m going to watch are Made in Abyss and Knight’s & Magic. I’ve heard some… stuff… about Made in Abyss, but it’s looking interesting, and the background art is OHMYGAD SO BEAUTIFUL so I’m in. Knight’s & Magic had waaaaaaaaay too many things happening in the first episode that it was hard to keep up, but Ernesti was really cute, and it has the director behind Shounen Maid (one of my faves last year), so I’m looking forward to see where it goes. I just hope its pace relaxes soon.

I’ll also continue to watch My Hero Academia as I enjoyed the previous arc a lot (you can’t not love the Yutapon). I’ll also continue to watch Boruto which isn’t trying to be original but it’s proving to be entertaining so far. Apparently the upcoming episodes will adapt Naruto Gaiden, which was pretty enjoyably ridiculous but it has Sarada so I’m in.

Edit: So I found myself watching Altair: A Record of Battles, and my first reaction was like “DAT U ARSLAN?” I’m still starting it, but the show has Sid as OP and it has this Arslan vibes and it sounds interesting, so I’ll probably stick with it. (Edit 2: So I finished watching the first ep, and I’m digging the aesthetic sense of this show. The story itself was decent, but entertaining enough. The ED is waaaaaay too pretty to be real tho.)

You’ll definitely enjoy it! I dig everything about the first episode-- the unusual setting, its quiet energy, and the art and music are soooo :ok_hand:

This season is somewhat mediocre.
My top 5(1=Best) is
1.Youkoso Jitsuryoku Shijou Shugi no Kyoushitsu e (TV)
2.Kakegurui
3.Gamers!
4.Tsurezure Children
5.Made in the Abyss

My Bottom 5(1=Worst) is
1.Isekai wa Smartphone to Tomo ni
2.Clione no Akari
3.Nana Maru San Batsu
4.Jikan no Shihaisha
5.Hajimete no Gal

You’d look at this list and think that it’s not completely bad.
But no it’s pretty bad. I’m currently watching 19 seasonal anime, and of those 19, I only enjoy 10.
The worse part is that the gap between the top 5 and the bottom 5 isn’t that far.
I’ve been into seasonal anime for 4 seasons, including this one.
Those seasons were Fall 2016, Winter 2017, Spring 2017 and currently Summer 2017.
During Fall 2016 I had 2 shows that I really enjoyed, JoJo’s Part 4 and 3-Gatsu no Lion.
During Winter 2017 I had Rakugo Season 2 and KonoSuba Season 2
During Spring 2017 I had SukaSuka and Natsume Yuujinchou Roku.
These shows were the highlights of my week and made those days when they aired worth looking forward to.

This season I feel straight up neutral about my top picks.
I like them, but not that much.
Good news is that Fall 2017 has some great shows that I’m hyped for like:
~Shokugeki No Souma Season 3
~Kekkai Sensen Season 2
~3-Gatsu No Lion Season 2
~Gintama Season 6
~Kino no Tabi: The Beautiful World (Made by Lerche this time)
~Black Clover
I feel confident that there’ll be at least one or two anime that are going to be my definitive favorites, that make the week worth waiting for in Fall 2017.
It’s a little weird for me to say this since I’m a student, but I hope summer could end faster.(Just not before I’m done with my summer homework)

It’s made by Lerche

I assume you mean the VN translation. Honestly, I’d say you shouldn’t get your hopes up for it coming out this year. Editing and TLC hasn’t been started yet as far as I can tell, and it seems that astro is incredibly busy, so it’ll take quite a while for him to finish that.

Oops, I made that mistake with Shaft animating Kino before. I think it was because I was watching Kubikiri Cycle and somehow got the two mixed up.
I also edited Clover Days to Black Clover.(Although I did list it last because of slight skepticism)

My finalized list for this season are
Fate/Apocrypha: Fate series so yeah watching
Gamers: IRL games and the MC is a filthy casual like me. I Love It
Kakegurui: Gambling is another hobby of mine. It’s why I torture myself with gacha games and card games buying booster packs
Koi to Uso: Kana Hanazawa voices best girl and I squealed so much during the first episode
Made in Abyss: Hyped anime by friend and reddit it’s alright
New Game!!: Season 2 about cute girls with yuri shipping and they’re making games
Princess Principal: The man who did the animation for episode 5(Ryuma Ebata) I’m in love with. Cute girls doing dark shadowy spy stuff but they’re actually really really badass
Re Creators: Picked up from last season. A lot better than I thought it was going to be. Thought it was going to be one of those standard action harem anime with the red headed tsundere. I was wrong it’s tons better than that and it’s not anything like a harem.
Symphogear: Season 4 gotta keep on chugging
Tsurezure Children: Short romance episodes and Kana Hanazawa is in it voicing the best couple
Youkoso Jitsuryoku Shijou Shugi no Kyoushitsu he: The MC is really interesting and I’m just curious on where it’ll go

I have literally only kept up with Tsurezure Children. After Tsuki ga Kirei I was like that’s it, new favorite non Key anime so I kinda lost interest in watching new stuff but Tsurezure is like my favorite thing ever this season because I love stupid confessions and romcom antics but at the same time every couple is so unique and cute and it just fucking love it.

Only watching Made in Abyss. First eps were promising, but I am slowly starting to lose my interest.

Wait, does that mean none of you are watching Aho Girl?
You guys are missing out! It’s absolutely hilarious the main characters are voiced by Sugita Tomokazu and Aoi Yuuki!

I’m watching aho girl :yahaha: I feel my IQ dropping every episode and I love it

That along with tsurezure children and sakura quest make for a very light load on me this season

I hope 3-Gatsu no Lion will focus more on the family stuff this season. It was focusing way too much on the shogi stuff near the end of the previous season, which I wasn’t really happy about. I much prefer the slice of life content.

Mahoutsukai no Yome is also looking pretty good, only seen first episode so far but I’m interested.

I’m hoping for a good mix of the two, I like the slice of life scenes but I feel like the shogi scenes are also important to develop the plot and characters, although I don’t actually know how to play shogi so if they have 2 episodes in a row that are just playing shogi I’ll get quite confused.

To be honest I’m not watching THAT much compared to the past so this season is probably a bit weak (then again, still watching a lot), and so far I liked the stuff that I’ve been watching this season.

My only actual complaint for this is pretty much one show but that series is KIND of fixing itself bit by bit considering the beginning of the show was… Okay? I was confused (being Dies Irae). Thought that it was pretty weird and was kind of hard to follow, but understandably I did felt like there were missing stuff and I knew the source was a VN, so I wasn’t much surprised. Despite that, I still enjoyed it due to being my type of show, or at least one of them.

Land of Lustrous was another show that I actually loved a lot. Mainly because of the overall world and the characters, along with the atmosphere. I don’t know why, But it just feels and looks amazing. Well choreographed and some of the directing choices were spectacular. As far as I can say. The music as well fits with the tone which helps with the narrative and makes things feel like something vastly different for me. I don’t know how to describe it. But this is certainly my favorite show of this season.

Kujira no Kora was something I was kind of bit skeptical about but it delivered an overall well-written world building and melancholic feeling to it. It’s also gritty in some sense at the same time which I liked the overall turn of things, as well as the characters and the entire story revolving around them. It really intrigues me. My only complaint would really be some of the episodes being rather clunky and even not that great in comparison, as some of the scenes don’t really make much sense but that’s really something that can be fixed over time.

Girls Last Tour was pretty much treated a bit like Made in Abyss, to where they exceed things and expand things more compared to the manga (By the way, I haven’t read the manga for Made in Abyss yet, however I did asked a bit about it and I think this can be compared a bit in terms of how the anime expands their sources and making them superior in some regards). Visual Presentation was the biggest highlight of the series which was… actually pretty neat. Interactions and its world was captured well by comparison which actually pleases me to say the least.

Blend S became one of my favorite SoL shows of this season due to how the quirkness and just the entire dynamic between the characters and how the entire situations were put for them were just awesome. For a directorial debut (which yeah its a debut) I thought it was pretty fantastic. Though I’m waiting for something :V just saying.

Mahoutsukai no Yome for me its one of the most anticipated shows for me, and I really like the chemistry between Chise and Elias. The entire atmosphere and the tone of the show really capture that fantasy-ish feeling along with melanchony as well. The directing is pretty solid along with its visuals, despite a bit derpy in some areas. I feel like they should be careful with it though.

Other stuff to keep it short though:

  • Animegataris: Fun series, breaks a lot of the 4th walls along with using the episodes to talk about the otaku culture (which is neat)
  • Urahara: Nothing special, just your typical moe type ish… I guess the characters are quirky and its just so stupid that its enjoyable.
  • Konohana Kitan: Cute show… although I kinda question some minor things.
  • Juuni Taisen: Typical Battle Royale series but aside from the predictability its actually thrillng regardless of that fact.
  • Just Because: Decent watch… although I’m kind of mixed with the entire drama bits here and there. Characters are decent and the production value its good, buuuut… eh, I guess its fine.
  • UQ Holder: This is one of those favorites of mine because I just love the typical shounen-ish feel, and the characters are mostly likable so far. It’s the type I can go through honestly.
There would be more on my end for the seasonals but I wanted to point out at least some of the stuff I liked out of the entire lineup I have.
  • Black Clover: I repeat my words a bit but this series is just eh… Mediocre to say the least. Not bad, not good. I say its in between because I do like it but I don’t like some other things about it.
  • Imouto sae Iireba Ii: Yeah, this is probably my guilty pleasure series. It’s just… I guess stupid in a way? The fanservice isn’t as awkward compared to Eromanga but just like the Eromanga effect, it manages to make me laugh for some reason, most of the time. Few times I tend to be like “Uh. Okay move on.” It’s kind of like my guilty pleasure show.
  • Two Car: Enjoyable but it needs to work on its drama. Characters are fine but they kind of need to work on some stuff when it comes to their characters.

That’s kind of it, so far. I might go and edit this for adding sequels a bit but, so far its good for what its worth. Not much to complain about ^^

Okay, I would just like to share my thoughts about the Fall 2017 anime I’m watching at the moment (I’m going to catch up on LB! once I fixed 50% of my mess this semester which I should be able to resolve tomorrow; also I need to talk about Komari soon it’s important to me)

  • Mahoutsukai no Yome - I only watched the first two episodes of this series, and I have to admit that I wasn’t really hooked. The thing about lowkey drama for me is that they need to have something to get my attention, like strong direction or glorious sakuga. Kuzu no Honkai sold me mostly with its strong visual personality, and while Made in Abyss only had me completely sold by its last few episodes, the more quiet early episodes boasted strong animation work and direction to at least keep my attention.
I honestly didn’t find any of these from MahoYome’s first to episodes. Sure, it looked neat and pretty, but there was hardly any notable strong animation, and even worse was the nagging feeling that they just turned the original manga panels to storyboard without changing anything to elevate the material. The result was that, even though I can see potential in the story, it wasn’t really particularly engaging. Unless someone gives me a compelling reason to watch more, I don’t think I’m interested in looking further. :((
  • Shoukoku no Altair - I have to admit, this show has had some episodes with really bad storyboarding, on top of its pacing issues and conservative animation. But somehow, each episodes almost always got me hooked, the writing never fell short of being intelligent, and I like Mahmut quite a lot. I’ll personally rate this a 7/10 so far; I actually enjoyed.
  • Ballroom e Youkoso - I saw best girl Chinatsu animated now, and they finally played Sing, Sing, Sing, so I think I got everything I want from this adaptation now, more-or-less. I think the anime’s fine; sure the animation is limited, but whatever’s there is really good, but I think I’ll stick with the manga.
  • ClassicaLoid 2nd Season - I love the first season and all its wacky composers and sheer weirdness, and I still love the sequel. That wasn’t always the case though. I disliked the second episode because, ugh, Wagner got introduced, and I was worried that it could get worse. But each episode showed to be an improvement from the previous ones, and now I can’t believe that an episode about Mozart going full lolicon (…yeah) is somehow unironically good. None of the episodes yet have been as much of a masterpiece as last season’s Forelle episode, but how could anything top the Forelle episode? As long as S2 continues the zany fun, that’s all I could ask for already. Also the remixes have even improved! (Ah, yeah, about the hippo… it’s a long story. Ahaha.)

That’s all. I kinda put a lot of series on hold because of acads, and I’m not sure if I could catch up on them. Though I do really want to watch Shoujo Shuumatsu Ryokou because I heard good things (read: sakuga) about it. ;u;

Post-season thoughts

  • Ballroom e Youkoso - So I actually watched the anime to the end. I won’t deny that there were some problematic stuff in this show, but dang they pulled out all the animation stops by the final episode. That was impressive. Which is basically what I can say about this series in general, as far as the episodes I’ve seen: I wouldn’t call it amazing, but it had impressive moments, and the time I dedicated to this show was worth it for that alone. Now going back to the manga…
  • ClassicaLoid 2nd Season - I still don’t like Wagner, but I’m glad he’s now an actually entertaining villain and is no longer negatively affecting my enjoyment in this show like he did in the early 2nd Season episodes. But wHAT THE HELL MAN I AIN’T GOING TO ACCEPT WHAT YOU DID TO BACH IN THE LATEST EPISODE. Well at least loli Tchaiko muh best girl is still there; still waiting for her to use 1812 and cannon the heck out of this trash kid. (Anyway please watch this terribly underrated show, it’s crazy fun, I swear.)
  • Shoukoku no Altair - This show ended quite well. Though I have to admit, apart from the pacing issues I already mentioned before, I also had problems with its discourse on imperialism. The show implies that there can be good empires, and while I’m not sure how that holds historically, in recent contexts, that idea has always just been an excuse for empires to exploit more vulnerable countries. I can’t really ignore that unfortunate implication, but this is still a show that I overall enjoyed watching, and Chemistry’s new ED Windy is good stuff, so yeah.
  • Shoujo Shuumatsu Ryokou (Girls’ Last Tour) - So I checked out this show recently. I’m still three episodes in, but so far, quite good actually. I usually don’t get into iyashikei that much, but Chito and Yuuri have a darn good chemistry and just overall fun to follow. The soundtrack is also great. Favorite episode so far is the 3rd episode, and it’s there that I realized that I like this show’s attitude. “No longer having a reason to live? That’s okay. We can at least try to find things beautiful in this bleak world.” Good stuff. (Also, blob sakuga. No words needed.)

As for stuff I’m going to watch next season, I don’t know yet, so I’ll just follow based on word of mouth. The only leftover series I’m watching is ClassicaLoid S2, which I have had a darn good time with so, yeah, totally still gonna follow this one. Other than that, I’m thinking of checking out Pop Team Epic, because it sounds stupid and fun and kinda my kind of thing.
