Rewrite Anime - Episode 9 “Fate Begins to Turn”

Aside from the CGI Treemen (which are still my little complaint through the anime, since I did not liked the clumsy and yet weird movements, though the shading placement is pretty good though) I did enjoyed the episode. The fanservice for me wasn’t all that bad (though the fanservice for me is like an immunity for me at this point), but I think they could have trimmed a bit from it.

I have a feeling we will have a Salvation ending probably, as to the reason why I think we would get a salvation ending on what type of salvation I think will have.

I assume since we’re already set up on the conflict of the series, or at least part of it, and since everyone will be going through a fight (I just assume the setup has to do with Gaia and Guardian fighting each other), I have a feeling that when Kagari sees the conflict, this will kind of trigger the entire “memories” and such ends, probably. This may sound stupid in all honesty but it’s just an idea

I liked the Kotori focused episode in all honesty, at least during the episodes it felt very nice, and also the facial expressions reminds me of the good ol’ Tensho facial expressions from Kiniro Mosaic for some reason. I would be biased but I just had that feel so much when I watched this.

I also like the fact how the anime focuses more on the Kagari and Kotarou chemistry, this actually feels rather more lively compared to the Visual Novel’s end when it came to the chemistry between them (though the issue would have to do with her character at the end of the VN more than the chemistry).

The only true issue I would have with the episode is the fact that they could have trimmed down a bit of the comedy. I wouldn’t mind the comedy being in Rewrite’s after Nov 13 (because there are some bits and pieces of it, just not as much compared to the usual common route), but I think this does kinda take away the immersion of the series. I do feel like that. In the end those are my thoughts on the manner.

Along with what is being stated here, I feel like this episode is trying so hard to fit in character development and character introduction all into one episode. There are a lot of characters in rewrite and… well, the audience needs to get a feel of what “side” each character is on since they all do have a specific role…

The return of Imamiya, Gil and Pani was poorly set up. They haven’t been important in the anime so far and its been so long since we’ve seen them I forgot this wasn’t the first time Imamiya was introduced at first. I can imagine some anime only viewers would have forgotten about them entirely.

Other than that, I enjoyed this episode. Really getting tired of the lewd jokes but these aren’t so intrusive as to greatly impact my opinion of the episode. We got some exposition and the delivery was entertaining. As usual I’m looking forward to next week despite how poor this adaptation has been so far.

Maybe if we’re lucky we’ll get to see (VN) Sakuya fight the Earth Dragon so we can finally learn who is the strongest familiar.

I believe there is a purpose for Nishikujio, Kashima Sakura, Imamiya, Gil and Pani, to be poorly setup. These characters aren’t necessarily important side characters right now. I wonder if the anime author’s intent was to increase the exposure to these characters as they do play a more prominent role in story telling later… Its like a subtle foreshadow. Kind of like Clannad in a sense: how in the beginning of the anime, the illusionary world was irrelevant and unimportant but after repeated exposure it was obvious that too had an important role in the anime

Just wanted to come back to this topic…

You know? I don’t think anybody expected that whole change in Kagari’s persona, but I am actually really happy with how this anime has turned out. It’s managed to capture most of what I’ve wanted from a Rewrite anime in a much smaller episode count than I would’ve thought possible. We’re not going deep into any character routes, but we’re not ignoring any of them either.

These last few episodes are very exciting to me. With this next episode being the pentultimate conflict, I believe it’s going to end with Chibimoth dying and Kagari being kidnapped by Gaia. They’re going to be using Kagari as Kotarou’s motivation to join the fight against Gaia, which will lead to a finale very similar to Akane’s route. Through an imperfect salvation, Kazamatsuri city will be consumed by the forest. They’ll probably throw Ultimate Sakuya in as the final boss.

We’re setting up for a very exciting climax, and it happens to be turning out just as I first hoped it would. I know I’m on the minority, but this is the Rewrite anime I was hoping for, and I wouldn’t change anything.

Except maybe less ecchi fanservice, but hey, that’s how you make money on anime in Japan so who am I to judge.

Actually, I saw that coming when they first announced Kagari route and then used Harvest Festa’s ED.
You can consider that as an unfair advantage since Harvest Festa received a Chinese Translation a while ago.

However truth to be told, I didn’t expect they really went through with it (as in, all the way), also the fanservice scene is completely unexpected either.

To be fair, they mentioned something about HF early on(I don’t remember the exact quote). It was more a question of what parts of HF they’d use. I sure am glad they didn’t use Miracle Kagari because that story is actually cool as fuck.

I have to say, I am rather impressed. I was worried since they didn’t want to acknowledge the route split, but this adaptation is shaping up to be pretty nice indeed, maybe much better than the original VN. It’s a shame we’ll lose much of the route-only arcs and endings probably, but Rewrite is finally looking like a well-rounded story. No more characters suddenly appearing out of nowhere, they are all being slowly introduced and foreshadowed, no more plot-points contradicting themselves (hell, Kashima Sakura actually makes an appearance at the begginning!). And Kagari now has a personality.

I’m excited to see what they’ll be doing next.

Here I was thinking that the earth dragon was an ancient familiar that managed to survive for 400 years. I don’t really like this change because now the earth dragon loses the only thing that made it kinda cool and eliminates the sense of danger of fighting a “veteran”.

Random Questions:
So does everyone see Kagari or what?
Why is Chibimoth’s head so triangular?

yes
In somewhat seriousness though, I can’t bring myself appreciate Meme Kagari. I would if it were anyone but her (I think someone else already said this).

Kotori and Chibimoth 5/5

Short Answer:
Yes.

Long Answer (Harvest festa spoilers):

She behaves in this exact way in Harvest Festa, especially in her own route. She appears in other routes as well with a similar personality but is more subdued otherwise.

The Earth Dragon IS an ancient familiar, but keeping it active takes hundreds of lives. So I assume the Earth Dragon is put in hybernation or something when he’s not being used. You’d run out of summoners if you sacrifice hundreds just for the Dragon to chill in a room and eat snacks.

Going straight into the meat of things, this is one of the few episodes I rated a 5. Why? Because I feel that it did nothing wrong, and the things it did right were just extremely exciting and entertaining that I just had so much fun watching it. Definitely one thing I notice about this anime adaptation is that it is focusing a lot more on Kotarou’s monologue we hear of from the beginning of the anime. Him being with Kagari gives him a meaningful purpose to his youth that became a void after the disbanding of the occult club. Kagari’s clueless personality adds in to Kotarou’s meaning, because she becomes an entity that he needs to take care of. I feel that monologue was something that took a huge backseat in the VN. So when you say:

That’s only because, in the VN character routes Kotarou is dumped straight into serious situation after serious situation, with no time or opportunity given for him to slowly move from his carelessness youth. This is because all of the heroines are in fairly serious situations as well. At least in this adaptation, we will (hopefully) be able to see the contrast between Kotarou finding a purpose in his youth, and this purpose slowly becoming something grander. As the immortal words go “SEISHUN TTE NANIYAAAAAAA” is exactly what Kotarou is trying to figure out as this anime goes by. And everything that has been happening so far is pushing him in that direction.

Gil and Pani weren’t directly agents of Gaia, and they don’t seem to know anything about Guardian. Imamiya did freak out a bit when he saw them (until he was sidetracked by chibimoth).

Since he saw chibimoth as a regular old doggy.

You’ve mentioned this multiple times, but I honestly can’t see anything wrong with the music placement. Could I ask you to post some examples?

I actually thought some uses of the BGMs were absolutely excellent. For example, I thought them playing the dye mixture arrange of Sorrowless while Kotarou was asking for help from Yoshino was an absolutely excellent touch, as it gave a serious mood that we never saw between Yoshino and Kotarou before but, at the same time, having it be the guitar arrange had this air of tension you wouldn’t get from the original version of sorrowless.

I didn’t even see any drama, so I don’t see what was forced, either :stuck_out_tongue:

Midou does notice it fairly quickly, doesn’t he? And he’s the only Gaia member that Kotarou has interacted together with Kagari.
Guardian on the other hand, well, I fault Imamiya and Lucia for bringing their guard down because it was something related to Kotarou, who they believed had absolutely no importance in the grand scheme of things, thus them not even giving much thought to whatever random girl Kotarou was with.

So with all this being said, I’m starting to quite like this rewrite of rewrite and am excited to see where it goes further.

This series is really starting to get good! Now that the drawn-out, poorly-executed slice-of-life set-up is done, everything Rewrite is trying to do has perked my interest. Even the comedy, which I feel has been a weakness in this series through much of its run, was mostly on-point (Yoshino’s crew kicking the Guardian agent’s can, for one). I can’t wait to see where this goes from here.
