Key Animal Appreciation Thread

Key works have many things we can all appreciate from them but one thing I do not often see discussed are the animals within the show. From the pets to the wild animals they all play a big role in the many key worlds. So I have made this thread in hopes to further the appreciation of these lovable creatures through discussion and reminiscence.

My personal favourite animal from the key franchise is Piro from Kanon.

Besides my love for cats the thing that made piro special to me was his over all resilience. Now I realise he is a cat and they are pretty adaptable and smart but this little guy held on to the top of a moving car for god knows how long. Although that aside I think one of the major factors at least for me was how he came back after being lost. You see a couple weeks prior to me watching kanon for the first time, my cat Bear had got out of the house without anyone knowing and was gone for about 2 weeks it was the most stressful I have been in a while. So this was still very fresh in My mind when it came around to the show and it really hit home for me.

Some of my other favourites are

Botan - I mean she is not only adorable as a baby but even when she has grown she is still cute!
Potato - For having probably the best name for a dog ever.

How about all of you? What is/are your favourite animals from key ? What are your favourite moments involving them ?

Well, to choose a favorite isn’t that simple, they’re all so great.

But I’d say that the cutest is Piro, just so adorable it hurts.

Botan and Potato on the other hand have their own little personalities, and their distinctive cute-as-hell noises. But to say they’re equal isn’t quite right, as Botan eventually grows up, while I’m assuming Potato is just a smaller size dog.

If the question were which one I’d like to own the most, it’d have to be Potato. He’s small, he’s cute, and he eats with chopsticks.

but let’s be honest, if we could have any of these adorable lil’ bastards we’d take them.

When it comes to the animals characters in anime/manga, I’m more of a fan of Hiromu Arakawa’s animals (as if my username isn’t telling enough, Maron is <3), but Key animals are certainly adorable. If it’s the question of who are my favorite Key animals, Potato wins me by a landslide. Too adorable I can’t possibly even. Pikkori~ Who agrees that the missing Potato scene is one of the best in Air?

Also Botan. She’s even cuter when she’s older (spoilery link?). <3

BTW, anyone has an idea about what Dorj is all about? Because I can’t find much topics about him in the Internet, and I don’t think he made appearance in the vanilla LB! tho. :((

While Dorj may have not been in the LB! vn, he was in EX, as one of the cats during baseball practice. Balls that flew to him bounced back, making him important to getting long combos. He also was a character in the LB 4koma.

He has (Sasami) a key role in the start of Sasami’s route in a few very fun scenes, where he gets a sprite and has voiced dialogue too! (nnuuu)
Dorj is definitely the best for me!

Pretty sure he’s in vanilla LB. Rin speaks to him in some “Watch her for a while” scene and he also makes an actual appearance as a weapon in the fighting minigame, and I’d say he’s the most hilariously overpowered weapon in the entire game.

Might be my favorite. I just feel like I can relate to him so much. It makes me cry every time a read that scene. I just can’t stand having to see him in that state.
(Im a little biased toward Potato as well though.)

How the hell has this topic existed for days and there be absolutely no mention of Chibimoth!?! For shame, guys. For shame

So why does Chibimoth deserve being mentioned here? Because he is an actual character. We all know that he used to be Kotori’s dog Pero. A dog that she never was really fond of; she admits this. A dog that, god knows whether or not he cared for Kotori. She probably even made him into a familiar just for the sake of experiment.

And how does Chibimoth repay her? By saving her life, that’s how. By, despite her not caring for him previously, he, not just as her familiar, but as Pero, fighting to stay beside her and protect her.. If that isn’t a mark of loyalty, then I don’t know what is.
