I Wanna Be The Very Best - Let's Play Pokémon Fire Red

Part 15: Ghost Town

Okay, I’m going to ignore you for the time being.

Gonna ignore you too…

Because I need to heal my Pokémon.

Lunar: “While I’m here, Nastasia, you may get some rest for now.”

Lunar: “Kanon, use Pound, like always!”

Lunar: “I think I’ll call you back. Pepe, let’s test out Rock Slide!”

Carol: “The Pokémon here in the mountains are so chunky… I wish there were pink Pokémon with a floral pattern!”
Lunar: “There are Clefairy at Mt. Moon, while they don’t have a floral pattern, they’re pink Pokémon that are regarded as cute.”

Lunar: “We all know how this one ends.”

Clark: “Ha-hay fever! Haha-ha-choo! Haha-ha-choo! Ha-choo! Snort! Snivel!”
Lunar: “Well, bless you, I guess.”

He had an Onix and a Graveler. I also had a Graveler, but of a higher level. It ended predictably.

Trent: “I feel bloated on mountain air!”
Lunar: “I guess that’s better than being bloated on Mountain dew, because then you’d probably have to run somewhere fast.”

Lunar: “This kind of invitation usually ends in some kind of tragic story on the news.”

Lunar: “However, I guess you only want to battle.”

Lunar: “Bite your way through, snake!”

Herman: “I don’t like you. I don’t like anyone better than me!”
Lunar: “Sore loser.”

Now to catch something in Rock Tunnel.

Lunar: “I’ll call you Onyx. Welcome to the team!”

Training summary:

And onward, to…

Lavender Town Theme

Silph Co.
Hmm, I wonder where they are located.

Boy: “I think they’re the spirits of Pokémon that the Rockets killed.”
Lunar: “Wait, I heard that these guys are up to no good, but they killed Pokémon?”

Girl: “She was killed trying to get away…”
Lunar: “This is just terrible.”

Old Man: “There is no job too dirty, no deed too heinous, no crime too wicked!”
Lunar: “Only now do I understand the gravity of those words.”

Youngster: “People will pay a lot for one.”
Lunar: “So that’s the reason Rockets are killing them? Just for some cash?”

Man: “Memorial services are held in Pokémon Tower.”

Girl: “He’s really kind. He looks after abandoned and orphaned Pokémon.”
Lunar: “It’s good to know that there are also good people left in this world.”

Pokémon Insider…
Pokémon Fan…

Lunar: “No, of course not!”
Girl: "Hahaha, I guess not. That white hand on your shoulder… I’m just imagining it.
Lunar: “Huh?!”

Lunar: “Damn, I fell for it!”
Girl:giggle

Man: “They’re effective over the course of a single battle. X Attack, X Defend, X Speed, and X Special are what I’m after. Do you know where I can get them?”
Lunar: “Sorry, I don’t. Doesn’t sound too useful to me either.”

Youngster: “…at the same time. If that happens, you have to send out two Pokémon to battle, too.”
Lunar: “Sounds interesting. Probably opens up a bunch of strategical possibilities.”

Name Rater: “Want me to rate the nicknames of your Pokémon?”
Lunar: “No, that won’t be necessary.”
Name Rater: “I see. Do come visit again.”

Girl: “That poor Cubone’s mother… It was killed trying to escape from Team Rocket.”

Lunar: “Poor thing…”

Pokémon Tower Theme

Man: “Sniff! I’m awash in tears…”

Woman: “Bless your Pokémon-loving heart, son.”

Channeler: “There are spirits up to mischief. I sense them high in the tower.”

Well, this is not a spirit, however us meeting might cause some mischief as well.

Sol: “Is your Pokémon dead? Hey! It’s alive! I can at least make them faint! Let’s go!”

Lunar: “You’re predictable, Sol. You always open up with Pidgeotto, so I got a Stone type to lead my party. Onyx, crush him with Rock Throw!”

Lunar: “Ah, still a bit left!”

Sol: “Ivysaur, you can take care of that quickly!”

Lunar: “Spoon Girl, you counter this one perfectly. Use Psybeam!”

Lunar: “Spoon Girl, come back! ballsy should be able to strike this one’s weakness.”
Sol: “Gyarados, use Thrash! You’ll be sorry switching out like that.”

Lunar: “Ouch. Still, use Spark!”

Lunar: “Ah, I misjudged, it wasn’t enough.”

Lunar: “Okay, Kanon, you can finish that!”

Lunar: “Using Thrash caused yours to be confused now, huh?”

Sol: “You still did a good job. Growlithe, now it’s your turn!”

Lunar: “As this is a Fire type, use Rollout, Kanon!”

Lunar: “Pepe, you can do it! Use Magnitude!”

Sol: “Kadabra, first Disable that pesky Magnitude. Then use Confusion!”
Lunar: “Oh, Magnitude isn’t his only strong move. Wanna show him a Rock Slide, Pepe?”

Sol: “I took it easy on you, too!”
Lunar: “Oh, making excuses again?”
Sol: “Anyway, how’s your Pokédex coming? I just caught a Cubone! I can’t find the bigger Marowak. Where could they be? I bet there aren’t any left! Well, I better get going. I’ve got a lot to accomplish, unlike you.”
Lunar: “Oh, I’ve got things to accomplish, too, I’m just taking the scenic route. For that matter, socializing wouldn’t hurt you.”
Sol: “Whatever! Smell ya later!”

Channeler: “A Silph Scope might be able to unmask them.”
Lunar: “Oh stop it with the ghost talk, ghosts aren’t real!”

Lunar: “i take that back, ghosts are real, ahhhhh!”

Lunar: “Phew! Okay, with the south still blocked by Snorlax, guess it’s time to head east, towards Celadon City. Because Saffron City is most likely still blocked off.”

Route 8

Lunar: “Uhm, Jigglypuff?”
Lass: “That’s cute, too, but not the one I meant. Here, look!”
Lass Julia would like to battle!

Lunar: “Oh, you meant Clefairy! This would have been my second guess.”

Lunar: “Still, the result is the same.”

Julia: “Don’t be so mean to my Clefairy! I read that Clefairy evolves when it’s exposed to a Moon Stone. I read that in a Pokémon Journal. I wonder if it’s true?”
Lunar: “These magazines are usually reliable, so I would guess so.”

Lunar: “Oh great, more of these guys.”

Lunar: “Pepe, use Rock Slide!”

Rich: “Playing games and Pokémon are like eating peanuts! I just can’t stop!”
Lunar: “You, sir, have a problem and I advise you searching for help.”

Lunar: “My strategy for those Poison types is called Magnitude.”

Lunar: “Except when it’s been disabled.”

Glenn: “It’s not logical! Go with Grimer first… and… …and… then…”

Lunar: “So this is a double battle. Onyx, you attack Clefairy with Rock Throw, ballsy, you take care of Jigglypuff with Spark!”

Lunar: “One is going to be faster than the other…”

Anne: “I’m raising Pokémon with Eli.”
Eli: “I caught my Pokémon with Anne!”

Lunar: “Spark should be reasonably fast in taking care of this.”

Lunar: “Oh, I think this is my first time seeing a Nidorina.”

Paige: “When Pokémon grow up, they get ugly! They shouldn’t evolve.”
Lunar: “That’s life. You can’t prevent growing old yourself, now can you?”

Lunar: “Kanon, Pound this toxic cloud into dust!”

Lunar: “Guess the poison was too much for you. snake, you can finish this!”

Lunar: “This Meowth can’t do much damage against you, so Throw Rocks until it faints!”

Andrea: “I think Pidgey and Rattata are cute, too!”

Lunar: “Yeah, it looks a bit weird.”

Lunar: “I guess your theme is ‘cute Pokémon’?”

Lunar: “Yep, looks like it.”

Megan: “Saffron’s gatekeeper won’t let us go through. I know he’s doing his job, but I think he’s mean.”

Lunar: “Poison vs poison, huh? However, snake here can attack without using poison as well.”

Jaren: “Don’t think you’re all special and all just because of this.”

Lunar: “More Poison types, I see.”

Lunar: “Okay, it is time. You’re almost unconcious anyway, so use Selfdestruct!”

Ricardo: “I got grass caught up in my spikes, man.”

Lunar: “I got a B.”

Lunar: “However, I know that Magnitude is the way to go for these ones.”

Lunar: “Maybe also some Rock Slides.”

Aidan: “I am better at school than this!”
Lunar: “Oh, I believe you!”

Lunar: “This might look disadvantageous,”

Lunar: “but our opponent was too focused on his gamble to get a Hypnosis off.”

Stan: “Things didn’t work today.”

Okay, now for this route’s wild Pokémon:

If I’m not mistaken, this is my first encounter with a wild fire Pokémon.

And after catching something, I’ll go through this Underground Path.

Voting Time
So I looked a bit ahead and realized that if I’d continue to let you vote for every route, I’d be most likely to get every Pokémon anyway, which would miss the point of these votes in the first place. So I’m going to bundle some routes under one vote to keep it more interesting. Why do I mention this? Because Route 7 and 8 are going to be the first of those bundles. The Pokémon tha appear are almost the same, Route 7 has Oddish instead of Ekans. So:

What Pokémon to catch on Routes 7 & 8?

  • Pidgey
  • Meowth
  • Oddish
  • Ekans
  • Growlithe

0 voters

And who leaves for the new one?

  • Kanon (Jigglypuff)
  • Pepe (Graveler)
  • Spoon Girl (Kadabra)
  • snake (Arbok)
  • ballsy (Voltorb)
  • Onyx (Onix)

Of course, the most important question is what is your chemistry grade what do you suggest as nickname?

Well, see you in a week!
