Finally finished Bravely Default. I logged over 103 hours in that game, and it was probably even more than that from all the times I had to restart a boss fight. I loved it though, it was a really great game.
I know @Exenorate is probably happy that Ive finally finished this, so I can stop blabbing to him about how much I love this story, and get back to playing XIV, heh.
This was actually my first Final Fantasy experience. You might be wondering, Yerian, how did you grow up oblivious to such an amazing series? Well, thats just the way it happened, OK. None of my friends ever played it, and I didnt even really have a console until recently. But Im here now, so its all good.
For those that dont know, Bravely Default’s main gimmick is the mechanics of “Brave” and “Default” in battle. Basically, you can either take 1-3 extra turns in advance and then not be able to attack for a couple turns (Brave); OR you can not attack that turn, take less damage that turn, and get an extra turn later (Default). Its kinda hard to get the hang of when to use which at first, but once you do get the hang of it, it adds a whole extra layer of strategy to the battle.
The game as a whole has gotten a ton of flak for its middle section because (Ch.5+) the world starts repeating, and you basically have to complete a mini version of the first 4 chapters 4 more times. At first, then dialogue doesnt change much, and it starts to get boring. But it does keep you entertained with some new story line, it just comes much slower. And then in the latter chapters it starts making you do crazy battles with groups of bosses, so thats fun too.
I have to agree, the way they did it was probably not the best decision. Sure, it makes a great story, but for a game, it gets dull and grating at points. For some people, I can see how it might ruin the whole game. But for me, it was only one drawback for an otherwise amazing story with a fun take on classic turn-based mechanics.
Now I can’t to wait for Bravely Second to come out in April!
