CLANNAD Kickstarter's Stretch Goals Unveiled! HD Confirmed!

We have some very big news to share today! Just now, Sekai Project have updated backers of their Kickstarter with official confirmation of the stretch goals put in place! And better yet, the first of them has already been reached! The total amount sits at just under $240k at the time of posting.

$200,000: HD Assets [COMPLETE!]

This is definitely the one idea our community seemed most excited about. Sekai Project have confirmed that they've managed to acquire HD assets for the release from the PS3 version of the game! To be exact, VisualArt's/Key has provided 1280x960 graphics, but Sekai Project are looking at having them changed to 1280x720 for proper widescreen support. What do you think about this decision, which would you prefer?

Secondly:

$320,000: Hikari Mimamoru Sakamichi de English Release

It appears many didn't even know what this was until recently (myself included), but this is a big deal! CLANNAD - Hikari Mimamoru Sakamichi de started off as a series of Drama CDs, but was later adapted into a short visual novel by Prototype for release on PSP, and later released as DLC for the PS3 version of CLANNAD. It includes eight short stories revolving around the main characters with full voice acting and art by Goto-P. You can add $25 or $30 to your pledge to add-on the digital or physical versions to your order respectively. But keep in mind that you won't get it for sure unless we reach the stretch goal first! You can learn more about the PSP game here.

And lastly:

$380,000: All-new CLANNAD Anthology Manga

That's right! With $380,000, we will be receiving an all new CLANNAD anthology manga which will be released in the West before it even gets released in Japan! This isn't just localisation anymore, this is new, exclusive content! We don't have a lot of details about it yet, but this is very exciting to think about! You can add $12 or $15 to your pledge to add-on the digital or physical versions to your order respectively. And also, anyone who pledged $1000 or more will receive both of the stretch goal rewards automatically.

And on that note, Sekai Project plans to unlock 5 more $1,000 tiers. These will probably be very hard to grab - I can imagine each selling out in under 60 seconds. If you're eager for that $1,000 tier (looking at you Biz), then you're going to need to keep your eyes peeled! Best of luck to anybody who is going after them! And lastly, paypal support is going to be added to the Kickstarter.

So, this is pretty massive news right? It all happened while I was taking a shower, so I apologise for being over an hour late with this, hahaha~! If you haven't supported the Kickstarter yet, now's the time! It also might be worth considering adding the stretch-goal rewards to your tier early, just to help the total reach that number. So, what do you think of the stretch goals? Are you happy with them?

Oh, and before I forget, Sekai Project just opened up a forum for trial. If it looks similar to our own forum, that'd be because it's also running on Discourse! Might be worth popping in to say hi!
Maybe mention Kazamatsuri.org as well.

I'll end this post with a little trailer of CLANNAD - Hikari Mimamoru Sakamichi de. Enjoy!

I wonder why the Side Stories are so expensive. I’d imagine they’re pretty short, aren’t they? I mean, planetarian is only $10 for digital…

If you check the update, they explain that it’s about getting the licensing for all the art, voices etc. A lot of the work was done by not-key :stuck_out_tongue:

Signed up to their forum. I don’t know if I’ll be active on it at all, but it doesn’t hurt. Sekai Project are pretty good at talking with the community~

Are we discourse hipsters yet?

I’m surprised that no one remembers that the Xbox 360 version of Clannad had the downloadable side content years before the PS3 version due to an arrangement with Microsoft. Not that it matters, really. I find it odd that version is so often ignored despite it being the first console port of Clannad to contain said content.

Again, it will be interesting to see how far the fundraising efforts can go. The opportunity for new and updated content is a pleasure to see. I hope it works out!

Ahh, the 360 version got it first? I didn’t know~

Yep! They were unlockable and listed as ‘Spinoff Story’ on the main menu. You can actually see how it looked by going to the 3m 42s mark in the video below:

Huh, I didn’t know they got them at all… I used to buy the VNs I enjoyed that were put on the Xbox live marketplace when I couldn’t get PC copies. It made me feel better about pirating. I never played through them for long though, so I must have missed it.
(That intro to Sharin no Kuni is incredibly painful when you’re in a group chat of people playing fps games btw.)

Hey, anyone remember that fan made Ushio VN? It’s a shame that wasn’t one of the side stories…

I recall seeing someone with CLANNAD on 360 and it blew my mind haha. Microsoft picks up deals here and there and it’s not often mentioned. ie Robotic;Notes and Chaos;Child. They must like 5pb :stuck_out_tongue: I wouldn’t mind owning copies of the console editions. Soon~

They said that was the reason that the stretch goal was so high, but that doesn’t really explain why the VN itself is so expensive… it’s only $15/$20 less that CLANNAD itself, which obviously has a ton more content

Oh right, I misunderstood.

Yeah, it does seem a bit expensive doesn’t it? It’s probably pretty close to planetarian in length, so $25 is quite a lot… Then again, this is the very first time it’ll be released on PC, so I guess that exclusivity adds something to its value.

ZEN jumping on the 380,000 stretch goal along with original Clannad manga illustrator Misaki Juri.

I can’t stand all the people whining about dropping their pledges because they aren’t getting a [insert non-Windows platform] port.

Are there people whining about that? They should stop living in the stone age and join the glorious master race.

Why would you even pledge in the first place with the expectation of non-PC platforms? Like, nowhere was it implied that it’d happen (unless it was). That said, if these idiots DO drop, we just gotta go at it twice as hard.

I’d jump into the recently dropped $7k pledge, but “Third World problems” happened…

I’ve only seen people ask for PSV ports… which probably would end up being unprofitable(or not profitable enough) for the bigger VNs.

There are also a ton of people threatening to drop because no Linux/OSX support. While either of these would be nice (I myself only have Mac/Ubuntu as well), Wine is easy enough to use that its not like they wouldn’t be able to run the VN, so its certainly not something to drop your pledge for.

Everything is relative. People that want to make a scene or are angry will be the most vocal. I highly doubt those saying they’re going to drop their pledges amount to much more than a very small minority. We’ll see.

I like how it’s master race even though -my- computer can run it without issue.

The Hikari Mimamoru Sakamichi de Side Stories Stretch Goal has officially been reached! Less than $58,000 more within 18 more days to get the Manga Anthology!
