I’ve just came across a Q&A from Charlotte website, and it seems like Jun Maeda compares the series to the first season of HEROES. I put it on Google Translate, so I’m not sure. But, here’s the plot of the 1st season of the tv show I found on the Internet.
“The first season, known as “Genesis”, begins as a seemingly ordinary group of people gradually becomes aware that they have special abilities. Events illustrate their reactions to these powers, and how the discovery affects their personal and professional lives. At the same time, several ordinary individuals are investigating the origins and extent of these abilities. Mohinder continues his late father’s research into the biological source of the change, while Noah represents a secret organization known only as “The Company”. While coping with these new abilities, each of the characters is drawn, willingly or unwillingly, into the Company’s conspiracy to control superpowered people and into a race to stop an explosion from destroying New York City. Meanwhile, focus is placed on Peter Petrelli as he tries to maintain his volatile power, and Sylar, a serial killer hunting superhumans.”
Seems pretty similar to Charlotte, doesn’t it?
In case anyone knows japanese here, the original Q&A:
麻枝さんに質問です。今作は能力モノということですが、能力モノは代表作が多いですよね。
そういった代表作に影響は受けているのですか?何かのオマージュだったりするのでしょうか?
それとも全く新しいタイプなのですか?シャーロット、楽しみにしています!
That’s interesting. I had never seen Heroes before, but I had thought that there might be something like the “Company” trying to control them (Charlotte). I’m wondering if there’s going to be a character that happens to show up and ask “Why do we have these powers?” or if there’s going to be something that alludes to the powers having not always existed. But I need to get caught up on all the speculation and information we have now. Maybe that was already confirmed, rejected, or theorized and I just didn’t see it.
Wow, Heroes? I watched the first season, but never finished it, and I gotta say, Heroes is pretty awesome :o It’ll make it all the more interesting, if anything. There’s probably gonna be some hidden, overarching plot.
Don’t worry. Jun Maeda said it’s going to be a typical Key-story. And in another Q&A, when asked if Charlotte would make people cry or something, Na-ga said Jun Maeda never disappoints. So, drama guaranteed.
I loved Heroes. All of it. I don’t even care that they butchered the story, because Hiro got so much screentime.
Teens with unpredictable powers, locked away from society, constantly monitored, and a Litbus or Rewrite style mystery being hinted at. Why wouldn’t there be drama?
Yeah yeah I was expecting it, it’s just that Heroes had none of that shit, everyone was too busy trying to save something so I just wanted to make a thing
At first I thought it might have some truth to it, but then I saw Tokyo Dome and was like… naaaah.
It’s supposed to be broadcast on Tokyo MX together with the final episode of the rebroadcast of Angel Beats which is showing right… now. Sadly I don’t have a TV so I can’t watch it
