Charlotte - General Discussion

Okay, go home everybody. It’s never enough. NEVER ENOUGH.

Do anime writers normally give a bunch of info away before the episodes air like that? Everything is stuff people have been guessing anyway and he said he’s paying attention to online reactions so I guess he thought it was fine but it’s still weird.

I’m really afraid about what will happens next.
I didn’t realize that they knew his real ability, and now theories are flourishing in my mind.
Well played maeda, you got me hooked again.

Can we run an analysis according to Bravely You? Since it’s written by Maeda too, surely the song has a great significance to the story.

Who is it about?
Just like AB! “My Soul,Your Beats!” and “Heartily Song” which is related to certain characters in AB!, I think Bravely You surely is written through someone’s POV. But who is it? Is it the MC Otosaka or Heroine Tomori? We can’t tell for sure until the full version is released and until Charlotte finishes.

Lyrics analysis (please note that the lyrics is not officially taken from the booklet because it hasn’t been released yet)

崩れて終わる世界、無慈悲に告げる
“We were told ruthlessly, the world will fall to ruin.”

We don’t know whose POV is this song about, but who exactly told and were told about the impending doom of this world? Does it mean that someone has the ability to predict the future or even, came from the future to stop the world from collapsing? Does someone actually has the power of destroying this world? Or is it just a metaphor about Otosaka-kun’s grief over Ayumi’s ill-fate?

This line is even more significant, as since the airing of Ep. 6, the official website has this written.

崩れゆく世界の先に彼が見た運命とは

“The fate he saw beyond the crumbling world is…”

And as for the stinger in Ep.6, featuring Wet Guy… There are theories that states, maybe Wet Guy is Otosaka who came from the future, or something like that. I honestly don’t think it’s gonna be true though.

何を選び取る何を諦める
決めようとしてる僕は何様だ
何を選ぶかはもう決まっている
間違いはないか神に問いかける
“Who am I to decide
what I will choose to keep, what I will give up on?
What I will choose has already been decided
I ask the gods if there’s no mistake about it”

Does this mean there’s some inevitable fate, something that must happen and will definitely happen no matter what kind of time travel powers or whatever interfering? Is this a sign that someone probably already time-traveled to protect something they “choose to keep”, but is forced to give up on it by the cruel fate and gods?

So far that’s my opinion. Please feel free to add!

Some interesting stuff to think about. We will see what meaning those lyrics have. Since all HLH songs are by Maeda too if I am not mistaken, and from lyrics of those you clearly see, that the meaning behind those clearly fit Misa and Yusa so far.

I almost sure that time travel or time-something is relevant. It is mentioned in the subliminal messages of the OP, just like many of the powers our characters have. Maybe the wet guy can travel in time, so that’s how he finds out who will have powers, and where he is/was/will be.

It’s a strange fact that he was right in the crushing scene, isn’t it?

Again: Time is relevant imo, a clock in the OP, subliminal texts “time lapse”, long exposure photos in the ending. But we’ll have to wait… the show seems to talk about Fate, right from the early trailers. Only time will tell…

I’m still wondering where the dog in Yusa’s ED came from…

It’s Misa.

the ending is something like the music video to that song, so it’s just a random dog, that gets used for stuff like that.

Main page over at charlotte-anime.jp got a new image. Two, actually, and they’re the key visuals from long ago but with some text overlay. From what I could tell, the text says the following.

Stars, side text:

Taisetsu na nanika wo ushinau to shite mo, shonen wa unmei ni tachimukau.

“Even if he loses something precious, the young man will stand against fate.”

Underground, side text:

Taisetsu na dareka wo wasureyou to mo, bakemono wa unmei ni idomi tsuzukeru.

“Even if he forgets someone precious, the monster will continue to challenge fate.”

Underground, top text:

Maeda Jun wa tou, kakoku na unmei no ketsumatsu wo.

"Jun Maeda tells (lit. asks) the resolution of a brutal fate.

Got stuck trying to translate the Star background top text, but it also starts with Maeda Jun wa tou.

So much talk of fate O.o
I wonder if the forgetting refers to the lost Otosaka sibling or in fact someone else entirely.

It would be really bad if it was just a random dog. Cuz, it’s, you know, too random.

Hey guys, I’ve just got a new theory: in the promos of the anime it was said that Nao and Yuu’s meeting would change the fate of the ‘talented people’. Now, we have: “Even if he loses something precious, the young man will stand against fate.” What if Ayumi’s death is the trigger for the scientists to find out Hoshi no Umi? And the whole ‘time leap’ stuff is actually because Yuu will try to go back in the past so he doesn’t meet Nao, so the fate of the ‘talented people’ isn’t dangerous anymore? The tear-jerking moments would come from Nao and Yuu’s farewells. What d’ya think?

You may point out that it’d be easier if Yuu just went back and saved Ayumi. But what if the same thing kept repeating no matter how he tried, and the only way he could avoid it was by not meeting Nao, or killing her or something.

Ah yes, I remember seeing these when they first released those key visuals…

It seems now we all probably know what the first one refers to. However…

I had always assumed “the monster” referred to Yuu. In fact watching episode 7, for awhile I thought we might be seeing what was meant by “the monster.” The OP mentions this “monster” too, I had kinda assumed that it was Nao’s point of view, talking about Yuu becoming this “monster.”

And all or any of that could still be true. But there’s also something tugging at me that says the monster could be Mr. Silver-hair, blue-eyes…

@sillylittlemelody As for all the theories as to where this “time leap” will come in… I don’t know… something (maybe the same instinct as above) is telling me that it wont play as huge a part in the story as many people seem to think/want.

So… You think it’s just the usual Key Time Leap that has happened in some other projects before?

so I am not quite sure, if I should spoiler tag it, but since the episode name is spoiler tagged, I will spoiler tag stuff from the preview for now too. so episode 8 PV spoiler: Looks like Sala (I think that was her name) will appear and guess what, she shares her VA with Iwasawa. Also it looks like we will go back to it being bit more chill again in this episode, so look forward to that.

Tell me, if the spoiler tag is unecassary, because if so, I’ll just remove it.

Episode 8 PV Spoiler I really, really hope Charlotte doesn’t fall into the trap of returning to mundane stuff after all they’ve built up, and end up wasting time and potential in doing so. If we return to everyday SoL and monster-of-the-week now that could prove fatal. I do have faith they don’t screw it up, though.

After watching the PV for Episode 8, I’m starting to believe @Aspirety’s theory back in one of the podcasts that Sala is Nao’s mysterious benefactor. Either way, it looks like she’ll have a slightly bigger role than we expected, and I’m looking forward to that! I’m surprised that she knows Japanese :stuck_out_tongue:

Maeda.
Do you like.
Ask every VN you’ve already worked with to come back first?

SKEPTICALLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
At this point I’m expecting episode 13 to be ‘the’ episode that alters the way the entire series is viewed.

Shouldn’t there be a Charlotte speculations thread???

You can go ahead and put them here. If you reference some information from the later episodes, make sure to put them in spoiler tags!

Or if a lot of your speculation comes from the events of a specific episode, you can put it in that episode’s discussion thread
