A new title is in development by Key!

Baba has confirmed that it is indeed Key’s ‘next big game’. Now I’m excited.

@Yerian Angel Beats! is Maeda’s baby, and as far as I can tell, he is currently too ill to work… The series is on hold until he gets better. In the meantime, Key is taking matters into their own hands and moving forward. I’m just glad we’re not stuck waiting for Angel Beats! to finish for 6 years before anything new comes out.

My wishlist for the new game is that it’ll have another really distinctive setting, like Kazamatsuri or the town in AIR. I love the sense of place in Key games.

Can’t wait to hear more information about this project!!

Thanks! I just wasn’t able to find a track list of the game OSTs. The anime had Anant-Garde Eyes for the music, so yeah.

It’s been years. His writing might have already improved over time. His routes for Key were indeed kinda weak but I don’t think he’s a bad writer at all.

…Oh wait I totally forgot about TRianThology. Welp. But I still can see him contributing to this game, in any case.

Romeo Tanaka wrote “Shoujo-tachi wa Kouya wo Mezasu” which was released this year and he is helping with the script of Rewrite’s anime and writing the new changes in Rewrite+.

I think that he can somehow get this new VN into his schedule since it will most likely be released on 2019-2020

and I think that the TRianThology is moving very slow since we didn’t get any news from it aside from its announcement.

also FYI I don’t hate Tonokawa, I like his comedic writing and I think that he should do the comedy focused common route for this new VN, I just don’t want him to do much of the heroines routes.

If it is a visual novel…

I would love to see more, if not then at least 1 more scenario written by Leo Kashida.
His contribution so far to the major titles is limited to Mio’s route in Little Busters! (subsequently my favourite of all, and why I want to see more of his work) and Tomoyo After (if you consider that a “major” title)

Based on the little we’ve experienced, he has written nothing short of top quality in my opinion.
From what I’ve read he has contributed to Matsushita V in Angel Beats, so I’m also keen on seeing how that turned out.

i hope it is a visual novel

i’d like to read something new from yuuto tonokawa i love kurugaya, shizuru and sakuya routes i know maeda is busy with the angel beats but it would be really nice if maeda could write for the new title
it would be great if inoue and Na-ga work in the art together like they did in little busters
and maybe a lia song but that would be to much :V
so excited

Just things like setting, music, and environment.

@Zaydgh98 I don’t think we should doubt Tonokawa at all. Keep in mind the routes he has done are all only just seperate routes that weren’t exactly effectful for the overall story. In Rewrite’s case, there wasnt enough communication between the writers. We have never seen a story by him where he thinks and does the overall story. Plus, Tonokawa is still somewhat of a new writer, even though he’s been in the business for a while, he hasn’t done much wtiting. Doubting Tonokawa because of his past-routes is basically the same as doubting the Rewrite anime because of 8-Bits past work, specifically Grisaia. Its just really being biased.

As for artist, I think it would be awkward if Na-Ga and Hinoue did it together again. With LB, it was fine. But with Na-Ga’s new coloring for the eyes and his way of doing the shadowing and light, and Hinoue’s new way, I don’t think it would look casual together. As we saw from LB, they don’t necessarily make the coloring and design for the eyes the same, which causes it to differ. But still, it would be nice to have a VN with them working together again.

Guys, read the update, it IS a visual novel :stuck_out_tongue:

Oh man this is so fricken cool! I know it’s gonna a long time til we actually see it but I’m really excited to analyze it. Key has not disappointed when it comes to teaching something in their stories.

If anything, I actually think Hinoue’s style looks a lot more like Na-Ga’s these days. There have even been a couple times very recently where Ive actually had to think about it before determining that some artwork was really by Hinoue.

Among Rewrite, Angel Beats, and Harmonia, you don’t really have as much shared staff as you’d think.

Shinji Orito - composer for Rewrite and Harmonia, but Rewrite’s OST is probably done with already.
Itaru Hinoue - artist for Rewrite, Harmonia. Most of the Rewrite art is presumably done with already.
Kai - writing alongside with Jun Maeda and Kashida Leo in Angel Beats, and is writing with a new writer, Nakamura Tsuzuru, in Harmonia.
Rewrite’s writers are mutually exclusive from Harmonia and Angel Beats, and 2/3 of them aren’t even in-house Key writers.

But with all that being said, no info on 2nd Beat after a year since 1st Beat’s release is pretty concerning, given the originally planned release schedule of 6 months in between releases. There are probably shared staff like programmers and whatnot, and who knows what other issues bogging down the development.

I feel like they could spacing out the releases strategically, since I think Baba said that “2nd Beat and 3rd Beat” were being worked on. All in due time, I guess.

I am pretty much of the opinion of @Yerian. I want the AB! VNs to be released faster since AB! is being dragged around for way too long. I also love AB! a lot, so the more content about it, the better.

Still, were it to be another different VN, I wouldn’t be disappointed. I have yet to find something from KEY which I didn’t like. :yukismil:

They just confirmed that it is a game, it might not be a VN. Fingers crossed for a AAA 2D fighting title! :kgoha:

I REALLY want an all-star Key 2D fighting game.

Would rekt n00bs with Terra Kotarou and Mask The Saitou all day

You guys should ask Baba about the possibility of this type of game xD

I never fought I wanted an arcade-style Key fighter until now.

More seriously though, I wonder what the scale of it will be. It doesn’t sound like it will be a kinetic novel like planetarian or Harmonia, but I do wonder how long it will be. Like if it will be a 60+ hour game like CLANNAD or Little Busters! or if it will be more on the shorter side (<40 hours) like Tomoyo After or Kanon.

Jun Maeda x Romeo Tanaka would be legendary. As someone said above as well, I’d like it to take it back to the good ol’ days, something classic Key like Clannad or LB.

I imagine Meada will be busy with Angel Beats for a while. I don’t expect this VN to be CLANNAD or Little Busters! quality, but I would hope Key can match that level again sometime in the not-too-distant future.

Well, I didn’t mean the quality of writing. But that too. What I meant was something pre-2010, when Key started to do incorporate alot of supernatural elements for the core of the story. Like Rewrite, Charlotte, and Angel Beats.

Holy shit, I’m so excited for this. I’ll actually be around for a mainline KEY game’s release!

Better yet, last time this happened, the English fan translation took several years. But with how it’s looking today, we may even be getting another official English release!

(…I’ll miss patch day hype though. I still fondly remember the day the English patch for Refrain was released, the hype, shortly followed by a heartbreak epidemic.)

Ah, i get you.

I see what you mean, previous Key works have mostly been set in an ordinary high school setting with supernatural elements coming into play much later in the story, and even then they are mostly as a fiat. I hadn’t noticed this pattern before you pointed it out, but this is likely why Rewrite and AB feel so different from Clannad and LB for me.

You’re right, getting back to this kind of formula wouldn’t really matter who wrote it.

I was not expecting a new work from but I did read the article about it and it seems that they are pushing out so many new things already that I am so excited about. I can understand why there are some who wanted to feel classic like CLANNAD and Little Busters! but it might be something that none of us were expecting to say the least. There could be many possibilities of how the story and script will be presented and whether to say how the work will be different from other Key titles. We’ll just have to wait and see.
