Rewrite - Anime Pre-Release Discussion & Speculation

In short, a fan, who hasn’t read Rewrite, asks if Rewrite has the same feeling as previous Key works. Itaru responds that some parts were made to be different, so reactions may vary. It’s still key’s staff that’s working on it. The fan responds excitedly, but also tells Itaru to take care of her health.

8-bit just announced some anime to air in spring 2016 but they got nothing for winter 2016 Rewrite maybe?

Grisaia no Kajitsu aired like 4 months after announcement too

can I see what they announced? And i have hope for summer/fall but im sure Key will announce a date during comiket or something.

Judging from 8bits anime announcement till relase, its about 4-6 months. So juding from that Rewrite should come around spring or summer.

Winter 2016 seems way too soon for having 0 footage, and not a peep since its announcement. 8bit’s had 2 shows in the same season before (Fall 2013 had Walkure Romanze and Tokyo Ravens). I agree with @s0ewhat on either spring or summer.

Yeah it seems too soon for me too but will they do nothing in winter?

And Grisaia had zero footage or info and then got finally some info and anime came out month later

I didn’t know that about Grisaia so I guess it’s possible.
They have skipped seasons before. Summer 2015 had nothing and they had nothing in Spring or Summer 2013 (although they had 3 shows in fall, I missed IS S2 in my last post).

Nevermind im so stupid i feel so stupid

Grisaia was actually announced 2013-03-07 and first episode came out 2014-10-04

All of Key VN adaptations (except AIR and the non-existence Toei adaptations) aired on Fall.

Kanon: Fall 2006
Clannad: Fall 2007
Clannad After Story: Fall 2008
Little Busters: Fall 2012
Little Busters Refrain: Fall 2013

Rewrite might be the same
if its scheduled to air on fall 8-Bit would have more time to work on it to deliver better quality.
I want Rewrite’s anime to have 3 cours

Note: we saw Yuuji’s square butt in Kajitsu’s anime, I want to see Kotarou’s rewritten ass animated

Kind of. Grisaia’s first anime “announcement” was back in 2010, around the same time the first VN was released, but that was more like an offhand statement of “yeah we’re planning an anime, the end.” It took years before the official announcement in 2013, which was taken more as a “oh this is still happening,” rather than actual news. Real info (staff, studio, etc.) didn’t come out until around April 2014 (I remember because I read through the sequels during Golden Week after finally getting somewhat concrete information). The PV was revealed at summer comiket, so that’d be August, shortly before the fall airing. On one hand, from “staff info” to release date, that’s 6 months, which could optimistically be interpreted as the same time frame as Rewrite. On the other hand, it’s just a weird example to draw any extrapolation from. That said, I’m still sticking to my spring 2016 guess.

ey b0ss, you can’t guess the airing date of Rewrite’s anime by looking at Grisaia’s release pattern.
Frontwing and NBC Universal are the ones who choose when it aired, I think it was delayed because of marketing issues, you can’t make an anime without knowing if it will sell or not, so they had to take time with the planning.
but for Rewrite the case is different, Key is a big name, a lot of people know and love them, anything by Key is guaranteed to sell well so there was no reason to stretch the production time for planning and marketing.

Aside from that, I want Rewrite to air either on summer or fall 2016, so 8-Bit would have more time working on it, though spring is a decent choice.
Rewrite first season(25 episodes): Spring 2016
Rewrite second season(13 episodes):Winter 2017
that would be great xD

8-Bit has done a 24 episode anime (Tokyo Ravens) and it was a good adaptation, it aired on Fall 2013 along with Walkure Romanze and Infinite Stratos 2 (both are by 8-Bit as well)

Tensho has never worked on a 24 episodes anime but in Spring 2015 he worked on Grisaia no Rakuen and Kiniro Mosaic s2 at the same time.

so far the only shows that 8-Bit has on 2016 are Rewrite and Shounen Maid(this will air on spring)

Technically Grisaia is a split-cour anime so Rewrite could be Spring and Fall 2016. As much as I want it to be 25 episodes I’m really leaning against it. In general I’ve been noticing less and less 2 cour shows with most going the split route. Even big shows by big studios like GATE and Asterisk War that were announced as 2-cour ended up split. I don’t think 8bit is as big as A1 and Asterisk has Aniplex behind it (same as Rewrite) with GATE having Warner Brothers (not sure how much they put into anime but they did back Little Busters and JoJos Bizarre Adventure).

Don’t forget that A-1 and Aniplex did Magi which had 2 seasons 25 episodes in each one.
I think that Aniplex chooses the episode count depending on how the story’s nature is, like Fate/Stay Night and Aldnoah.Zero, the split cour format suits it.

also I think another reason on why A-1 does a lot of split cour shows, its because they do a lot shows, there is no season that doesn’t have an A-1 show, they are a big studio but there are of course different teams working on each series, each team gets its turn on a season while the other team is preparing for the next season, correct me if I’m wrong.

I think I’m misunderstanding you but what I get from that is they have a rotation of teams and do split-cour to give each a chance? That doesn’t make sense because say they have 5 teams and team 2 do split while the rest do 1 cour. That would go 1 2 3 2 4 5. I always thought split-cour was intended to help fund the 2nd half using Blu-ray/merchandise sales from the first half.

First of all Grisaia was never delayed, at least not officially. It’s pretty common for anime production to take several years from the very early planning stages. It’s odd that they made announcements so early, so you can argue it had delays, but everything has delays to some extent. Second, while I’m all in agreement that Key is popular, etc. you’re clearly ignoring how darn popular Grisaia was/is. It’s easily been Frontwing’s poster child ever since 2011. Just because something isn’t Key-tier, doesn’t mean it’s not popular.

Thirdly, while I agree the Key brand name probably let’s it get things done faster, you are vastly oversimplifying the anime production process. “No reason to stretch the production time” is an ideal which doesn’t exist in the real world. There’re countless reasons why delays might happen, and a work being Key or not has nothing to do with it. People in charge get in arguments about how to do something all the time and this prevents forward progress that otherwise could take place. The creators could be adamant about one certain thing, holding up the rest of production waiting on that single decision. In Grisaia’s case, as a mere example, delays could have been argument over what studio to put in charge. Everyone has to make sure they’re on the same page and in agreement; even accidental mistakes can lead to delays. In Rewite’s case, the whole storyboarding issue that we’ve all debated could be a major factor in its production time.

Anime announcements tend to be made once all the major details are finalized. In Grisaia’s case, it clearly wasn’t - the source material wasn’t even released yet. In Rewrite’s case, it was made much farther down the production pipeline - it came with studio/staff info. We can make guesses all we want, but guessing a speedy release based on it being from Key is a silly claim. The people who guessed Rewrite would get an anime just because Key, that’s completely valid.

I would probably be very happy with that.

Not at all. Split-cour happening means the 2nd season is already funded (perhaps sales can boost funding, I don’t know, but they’ve already secured enough to guarantee production). Anime is made as it airs, which means small delays build up over time, leading to rushed production and problems as the weeks pass. Split cour gives the team a 3 month break where they can reorganize and get back a (hopefully) nice buffer to produce quality anime instead of being more and more rushed as small delays continue to build up. If you’ve seen Shirobako, that does a good job showing how terrible unexpected delays can be in anime production.

What I meant by help is they have the funding to make it but if they just made it 26 straight episodes it wouldn’t be as good as 13 and 13. I didn’t even think of the regroup thing which does make sense.[quote=“Kaze, post:136, topic:2127”]
It’s easily been Frontwing’s poster child ever since 2011.

I know Grisaia was really big but I don’t think saying it’s been FrontWing’s poster child is saying much. Looking on Wikipedia they’ve only actually released two games since.

I guess it depends how you look at it. Nothing pre-Grisaia was very popular, so when I said that, I left out the part that I don’t think they really ever had a title that could be called their poster child until Grisaia. Grisaia’s release and subsequent success marked when they finally had a title to really define themselves by. I’m not sure if that’s a good enough argument, since you make a good point too.
