Rewrite Anime - Episode 6 "Occult Club Activity Log"

Now I don’t know how to put spoilers in here but I’ll try to be brief for a first time discussing about the episode in the forums, so if anyone can inform me on how to put spoilers for later on please inform me how.

I personally found the episode rather well paced than the previous episode, let alone it showcased what the occult club does at least in little snippets, which is not a bad idea considering by doing this longer it would really drag a lot for my perspective. It was simply entertaining and while I was disappointed at the Yoshino song not appearing, the transitions were pretty good, along with the fact that they made a Bruce Lee reference Lol.

Aside from that, I think the episode was pretty good, my only issue, as it goes on, its still the constant derps which while they can fix it in the Blu-Rays (of course Tensho tweeted out the Blu-Ray version of Episode 1 in a picture from most likely his cellphone), for now it kinda takes away the experience a bit. In some sense the art isn’t that bad, it just needs some little bit of arranging and I felt like they made this too quickly?

My other issue was the fact that it added some bits and pieces of fanservice, and while I don’t personally mind it per say, I don’t really think its a good idea for the anime only viewers to see this. Just because if you know how they are… half of the people would bash for the little snippet of fanservice that they see.

But at least we got Lucia in the Maid costume, which was pretty adorable af to see.

It’s quite fairly simple, though when I was trying to tag spoilers before I wasn’t doing it right.

This is how you tag spoilers:

All you have to do is type insert text here. This will make your text hidden so when others are reading it they’ll know it is marked spoilers. It is best to use this even if you’re not sure that it could be considered spoiler territory for future reference. Also, there is a topic specifically for spoiler tags, so type spoiler tagging in the search box, and there you will find that topic for further reference.

Ah alrighty then, thank you very much!

Great advice 10/10

@SymphoniaXX That stuff is in the Code of Conduct which you should totally already have read.

I tend to usually forget about it, besides it’s been months since I logged in this site so forgive me about that. >__<

Much like the previous episode, this one was a mixed bag for me. On the one hand, THE PLOT THICKENS! It was interesting to see Lucia and Akane go at it, and the latter laying out her agenda for Kotarou was unexpected. I’m looking forward to see how the plot will influence events in the future.

However… The humor is still eluding me! It might just be me, but I’m just having a hard time getting a lot of the jokes. Their random investigations were KIND of funny (Yoshino being misinterpreted as an ‘ogre’ for one), but then there’s the dog that says ‘moth’, Lucia’s erratic reactions to being in the maid outfit (what’s the big deal with him calling her cute? If she’s that sensitive, would she have even worn the outfit at all)? As I’ve said before, I just don’t feel like these writers have a solid understanding of the timing and lead-up necessary for Key humor.

Regardless, I’m looking forward to seeing where things go far from here.

It says mosu because it’s a mammoth familiar created by kotori from her old pet dog

That’s because its a classic tsundere troupe and Lucia is a tsundere so its to be expected.

I dunno. A tsundere probably wouldn’t have worn an outfit like that in the first place. And would a tsundere have snuggled up to him in the next scene? I just don’t detect a lot of consistency in her behavior. Besides, Rin Tohsaka’s (Fate stay night) a tsundere, and she never had that violent of a reaction to something like tha). It also doesn’t excuse behavior that’s thoroughly archetypal when she’s already supposed to have gone through her development. I feel it’s somewhat backwards in a way…

Lucia wore cause it was one of koutarous conditions to keep quite even though he meant it as a joke but she ended up taking it seriously. As for the whole snugglign up thing thats reasonable her dere side would be to be close to him expecially since now that she finally has some one who she can touch with out poisoning them. As for her tsun side would be her punching him and or rejecting his complements cause she is embarrased aka tsun side.

That’s true. Though, I have to admit, I’m kind of shocked Kotaruou didn’t spell that out earlier… More relevantly, though, I think the snuggling up thing was just TOO forward. I understand it fits the archetype, but there wasn’t much lead-in too it. It’s not like there were having a perfectly normal, friendly conversation that lead up to something romantic, it just kind of happened. This may be due to pacing issues with the adaptation, but it felt forced in my mind.

And since you bring that up, don’t tsunderes tend to get a little more forgiving of their romantic interests once they become friends? And wouldn’t it have made more sense for her to slap him after finding out it was a joke? That would have fit better from a comedic perspective. Or at least when he wryly muses he wants her to stay that way. His mostly innocuous comment was just a jerk-ish time to bring it up.

I want to believe this is poor writing because if it really is perfectly consistent, I might start to believe Lucia embodies much of what I DON’T like with the archetype, rather than the positive points. On a side note, I don’t really buy that a rules nazi like her would wear an outfit like that, with her being a student and all…

Yeah it can’t be helped with the whole sudden snuggling since they cut out a bunch of stuff from the vn. As for the forgiving bit, usually they stay the same throughout. The only thing tht usually changes is there will be more times they will be more loving like Taiga from tora dora who constantly beats him but end up having more intimate moments with him. The whole punching Koutarou probably stayed the same instead of just slapping him would be because its Lucia’s gag/joke so they would use it whenever its a funny scene or joke involving Koutarou to embarass Lucia. Lucia’s character is actually really well done in the vn but because of all the time constraints she got turned into what she is now.

After watching the episode with subs, my opinions remain mostly the same. It was a good episode, sure. Told things in a well-enough manner, and started to get into the meat of the story pretty well. I just simply hated how they portrayed some of the emotions during the episode.

Like, when Kotori says something cheerful about chibimoth, yet her expression is very monotonous. And then especially with the whole shizuru and lucia clinging to kotarou. That left a bad taste in my mouth >_>

i can understand that. One of my chief problems with Lucia as a character is that as opposed to trying to banter or at least argue with Kotarou, she always feels like she just resorts to violence even when it really isn’t justified.Usually, it’s not even pervy behavior from Kotarou, but just somewhat embarrassing things that push her buttons. And when they make it over-the-top slapstick like that, it makes it hard to take their relationship seriously. It almost makes it feel like a reverse-abusive relationship (half-joking, but still)

Also, Kotarou would be Shizuru’s second friend at this point. There really isn’t any side of the protective, caring nature she shows for Shizuru in the way she treats Kotarou. I know he’s a ROMANTIC interest for her, but recently, they reaffirmed that they were friends. I think it’s only reasonable that her over-the-top behavior be somewhat toned down in light of that.

Yeah its understandable, some people don’t like that kinda thing. It can’t be helped since she really won’t get any main episodes regarding her after this. Hopefully the serious scenes make up for it and just have to bare with it when they do their slap stick comedy.

Just a couple of quick things:

I liked the use of the Sunbright unused track at the beginning, t’was nice~

The montage during the first half was ok I guess.
(I sure hope those Yoshino transitions don’t mean no YO-SHI-NO…)

I hope people don’t end up mistaking Anthurium as the “theme of the occult club”

It’s nice that we have the OP/ED back, but a happy song after that cliffhanger was just awkward

After rewatching and thinking about it for a while, I just began taking that harem-esque scene after the apologies scene… as more of Shizuru teasing Lucia for her nonexistent sense of personal space, and backfiring hilariously. That scene was still pretty badly-written either way, but now that I’ve excused it as that, it annoys me less now. I might even find it lightly amusing, if I ever rewatch that episode again. :stuck_out_tongue:

As for Lucia, @DangoDaikazoku, I’m just getting that (1) she has no sense of personal space because of her circumstances, (2) she semi-consciously lashes out out of embarrassment, which has been seen from her in Episode 3, and (3) she still doesn’t like the lewd. She took the maid uniform condition seriously mainly because Guardian is a very serious matter, and as for why she didn’t lash out when she was told that the whole thing’s a joke, it might just been because she has been so nervous about it for a while that she was left in disbelief. But that’s a bit of a stretch on my part.

It would have been interesting if we saw her apologize about it, like she actually did in her route, but eh, standard tsunderes.

I can see that. I think maybe they dragged it out a bit too long, though. It doesn’t help that I’m not particularly fond of Kotarou as a romantic lead…

I hadn’t thought of that. I can see her wearing the maid outfit because Guardian wants to get on Kotarou’s good side, that DOES make sense. Though, I might actually say that she should be VERY conscientious of personal space out of a desire to ensure what happened before doesn’t happen again.

I guess I can concede there might have been SOME comedic potential in the scene where she wears the maid get-up, but the humor was just poorly timed and awkwardly executed in my view.

Well, I finally got to watching episode 6 and I gotta say: that was a pretty enjoyable episode. The Lucia maid scene was quite funny, and I didn’t mind the scene where she and Shizuru were clinging to Kotarou, though I can understand why some people might be turned off by those two scenes. Also, the YO-SHI-NO transitions during Occult club case montage were quite amusing, especially the one where his pant zipper unzips and it reveals his own face.

As for the second-half, seeing the swamp scene animated was quite satisfying and I felt Kotarou’s shock and disgust during that scene. Plus, I liked the scene where Kotarou sees Kagari and then rushes to the tree area, where he starts remembering some events of his past. Lastly but surely not least, we get to see Chibimoth again.

However, if there’s an issue that I noticed, aside from maybe some animation goof-ups, it’s that some of the dialogue goes way too fast. This was quite noticeable in the scene of the episode, when Inoue was talking to Kotarou on the phone about going to the forest. As a VN-reader, because I know the context of that scene, I didn’t have to backtrack the video to read the subs again, but I can imagine an anime-only viewer backtracking, due to how fast the dialogue was going, and it might have been really annoying for them.

But despite those issues, I enjoyed this episode overall, and I’m looking forward to seeing episode 7.
