Rewrite Anime - Episode 6 "Occult Club Activity Log"

i’ll just say something #chibimothbestgirl?

I think she coughed because The forest in that spot is unnatural and damaged by the “Rainbow swamp”, which is also why theres no bugs, the trees are rotten and such. Being more sensitive to nature, she would also be more sensitive to spoiled/unnatural nature. Plus (Major spoiler) afaik Gaia is responsible for the Rainbow swamp to begin with, so maybe Akane knew it was there and was more prepared, if I remember correctly she had to pull strings and such in the VN to get access to the area…

It was a cool episode, but I’m really disliking how they’re making Guardian look the heroes of the story.

And how they’re making Akane seem evil.

It was still really cool, looks like Leaf Dragon is next.

Pretty good episode I’d say. First few fanservice part would’ve been better if it wasn’t for that shitty animation regarding Lucia’s 2 watermelon. I mean make it consistent size at least! Yoshino still reminds me of early version of Sasuke from Naruto haha.
Second part was really enjoyable as it showed deeper bonds between Shizuru and Lucia but introduced dark/regret aura from Akane. Only thing that stood out was when she said “Just get rid of humans” Oh really now. So wiping 7.4 billion people (assuming Earth population) is easier than let’s say shutting down a factory? What’s the solution to global warming? Just get rid of humans. What’s the solution to littering? Obviously just get rid of humans!. Was that ever said in VN or just anime only? The way she said it was so awkard and chilidish it reminded me of a 5 year old kid when they throw tamper tantrum.

That was said in the VN, however then its much clearer that she said it mostly to get a reaction out of Kotarou. You can tell its in jest. Even if she partially believes it

We haven’t seen Gaia yet so when they’re introduced they’ll probably try to make things more neutral. Also Guardian really is portrayed as the good guys and Gaia the bad guys for most of the VN too.

They may make her the antagonist like in Chihaya’s route.

So, anyone else noticed that the dial/index of Kotarou’s power changed in the opening?

Only noticed that just now!

It was alright, I guess

Regarding Gaia and Akane’s role . We still don’t know how the story will be. If they want to do a simple, standard plot with good and evil people, Gaia is the clear candidate for the latter, and Akane the only viable character with chances of becoming the big bad . However, it would be too simple, and it’d miss the spirit of the Rewrite story. Also, if the story is going to be focused on Kagari, I can’t imagine how they’ll make that the faction that wants to kill the main character is the indisputable good side.

How will the plot evolve? I’m really curious about it. I wouldn’t be surprised if, in the end, they develop a mini Terra route, with Kotarou entering somehow in Gaia because it’s discovered that his answer was “change the world”, then remembering everything after learning about Akane’s background (showing her as a child today may be a hint), and a relatively similar ending (if not, starting with the moon events wouldn’t make sense) than Terra, maybe more positive and with an increasingly “human” Kagari . Obviously, this is just a speculation. Most probably, something heavily opposed will happen :joy:

Not a fan of the trashy fanservice at the beginning. There wasn’t even a trace of subtlety to it.

The investigation montage was beautiful though. Using Yoshino transitions really was a genius idea. Also subtleties like reminding us of Chihaya’s extraordinary strength, yay!

As for the forest sequence, it was hit or miss for me. The directing once again felt off kinda like in the early episodes as many a scene progression just… didn’t sit well. Like when they found rainbow river. Props to the Kagari flashback though, it’s mysterious foreshadowing done pretty well. Though Kagari then just up and disappears all of a sudden without Kotarou noticing or commenting on it which is once again just such a weird and unnatural way for the scene to play out…

I did like the way they characterized Akane this episode. The early spat with Lucia was good, and the scene later on in the clubroom was pretty good as well!.. except that scene fell into one of my most disliked traps which is that it just ends. Like seriously! Akane drops a bomb and then what!? Does Kotarou just head home? Does he not question her on what the fuck she was talking about?! What the hell. It’s like there was no way to end the scene in any logical manner without having more exposition than they’d like so they just cut it off right in the middle. I don’t like it. Not one bit.

That I have to agree on though. It’s quite intriguing.

Thankfully the plot has been set in motion and it’s not stopping anytime soon, so I’m really looking forward to seeing what the next episodes are going to be like. We’re barely at the halfway point, after all!

(Almost all spoilers are of late common route, gotta at least start any route other than Lucia’s to read 'em)
I decided to try and watch the Rewrite anime less seriously and lessen a little too much my expectations of it and just watch it just as some kind of “extra” to the vn and… I’m actually enjoying it more than before. This episode was pretty funny. Well, even before the preview was out, I kinda guessed that this episode would be something like and that, that it would introduce Chibimoth, do lots of Oka-ken quests and end it with Inoue’s disappearance. I think I remember that there was some kind of tweet that episode 7 would make people cry or something? I’m not sure anymore but if that were true than it would include without a doubt the 13th night tho except for splitting the Oka-ken, right now that moment kinda feels pointless… I’m sure that the Leaf Dragon would seem just like another one of those monsters that appear all the time after showing Krivoy Rog on episode one… which kinda disappoints but oh well, I don’t care anymore of whatever comes out of the Rewrite anime. Now, I’m just watching it just for the sake of watching it lol.
Anyway, did anyone notice that… THEY DIDN’T MENTION AKANE’S BOOBS FOR ONCE!!! Finally… They kind of made sure to remind us of the oppai promise on every episodes after it was made… Even on Lucia and Shizuru’s serious episode which kinda felt like it was the whole plot lol but… Oh well, they might’ve not mentionned Akane’s boobs but they basically showed us some other bigger jiggling pair of boobs so it doesn’t really matter… But they’re making too much fanservice that it’s probably scaring off some anime watchers lol. I’m interested to see if they’ll keep it up even after… Well, you know… Episode 7. If they do some kind of scene around episode 8-9 where Kotarou says something like “In the end, I never managed to touch prez’s boobs…” regrettfully, that’s kind of like confirming the existence of Oppai Ending as an OVA, don’t you think?
Anyway, here’s what I kinda liked about this episode:

  • The funny scenes felt less un-funny than previous episodes, probably 'cause I’m getting used to the pace.
  • Got to see Meido Lucia!! Yahoooo!! (tho it seems like she’ll just end up as the useless tsundere b**ch with a good backstory made for the simple purpose of fanservice, it kinda makes me wonder if (Lucia route spoilers)she’ll just disappear later to find a new antidote for her poison or if they’ll actually make some use of her)
  • Got to see lots of Rewrite quests animated even tho it went way too fast and I’m sure that some anime only watchers might’ve not understood the whole Tyrannosaur Rex quest.
  • YO-SHI-NO scenes lol.
  • Chibimoth, Akane and Sakuya .
…Pointing out all these kinda means that there was no good point about this episode lol but it was still pretty enjoyable to me. Also, saying what’s wrong about this episode is kind of too much of a tiring thing… I’m trying to be pretty optimistic about the rest of the anime haha.

5 minutes of an episode wasted on Lucia fan-service and the best part was poorly drawn … And what is up with those weird YO-SHI-NO scene transitions?

I’m not really sure where we’re going with this anime, and I both like and dont like that.
The dread of uncertainty makes me anxious, but as long as the payout at the end is decent I’ll be alright with it.

The Terra plot twist is more or less out of the bag (If the OP didn’t already give it away by episode 2)… So I guess we are going to be seeing Terra animated at some point? Maybe in another season.

If not I’m still interested in seeing where this anime goes… I just can’t seem to get myself hyped for this right now. I’m not really impressed but I don’t think anything has been so bad that I’d wouldn’t still recommend anime-only watchers to start watching it.

Again I am very much enjoying each and every episodes. The okaken mysteries were really funny for me im just sad we don’t get the full experience, and also those Yoshino transitions were wonderful lol too bad we won’t be seeing them anymore. Overall I thought it was a decent episodes, I really love how they are now showing the philosophy of each orginization and what Akane thoughts are on the current situation and her argument with Lucia.

Well to be fair they did tweet out and say they were doing a new 6th route, so they could just be using plots from moon/terra and adding new stuff into it or adapt terra/moon seperately.

Surprisingly Rewrite is doing well in their rankings by fans from charapedia it placed 13th and 10th in Docomo’s survey.

So I’ll put here some of my speculations on what will happen in the next two episode (spoilers are from the VN) and…

  • Episode 7: The November 13 incident. Or something similar to this but written differently. Or something completely different but still a wham episode. It cannot not be a wham episode. The animation was quite off this episode that it seemed like they were saving up for the next episode. Otherwise, that would be sad.
  • Episode 8: If Episode 7 went as expected, this episode will go with Kotarou meeting Inoue (as what happened in Kotori route) and finding out what happened to her. It might even be possible that before meeting Inoue, we could get a scene where Yoshino and Kotarou had a confrontation in the school during the common route. That scene was a pretty important point of characterization for the two characters, it would be a shame not to include it. After these two scenes, the sixth route initiates. Or a bit of Kotori route, for all we know.
  • Very later on, a bonus OVA including more common route gags. What are the odds? :,))

Lucia’s maid scene used up valuable screen time and probably turned off a lot of anime only viewers who are actually interested in the already hard to follow plot. That, and the Lucia/Shizuru hugs were super misleading because it didn’t even seem like a joke. Nobody knows what they should be expecting, harem/fanservice or an actual story.

The comments section of the episode was filled with those who are confused or who are constantly reaffirming that it will get better or that it’s not supposed to be a harem and that scares me.

I understand why this episode was made the way it was though. They wanted to show the viewers that Kotarou keeps pushing the club to investigate leads and go on various adventures to make memories, while not using up too much time. The montage idea wasn’t terrible but I thought it was poorly executed. It was rushed, tried to seem funny without any of the buildup for the punchlines that were in the VN, and did nothing to add to the personality of each character. I even had a hard time following the montage, let alone anime-only viewers.

In my opinion, the occult club activities were the perfect opportunity to showcase some of the fun and interesting aspects of each heroine, but they still seem like the cliches they were built off of. They really needed to showcase the more unique aspects of their personalities to make them enjoyable to watch. What they could have done, was stuck with one of the club activities and make sure the jokes actually hit, with actual character development. Everyone just seems super awkward right now. Maybe after the one activity, they could show them striking the others off their list of leads to show how much time they spent together.

Another problem with the anime so far is that all the important information is being fed to the viewer too quickly. In the VN, only bits of info are slowly revealed so we have time to understand each major occurrence. All the parts that should be a big deal and make you excited for finally understanding another mystery just fall completely flat. Anime only viewers are bound to think: “Oh, another really weird thing was just randomly brought up then virtually ignored by the cast as if it’s natural. What’s the significance of all of this?”

If everything is made out to be important, nothing seems important.

The confusion is avoided in the VN by separating major info into the different routes and having slice of life elements in between, but most of it is either cut out, or badly adapted. I’ll cut them some slack though, since with all the important info that needs to be delivered, the time needed to pace the plot is non-existent in 13 episodes.

Finally, they are really pushing the environmentalism ideas a lot during the episode when it wasn’t necessary. I guess they were trying to show how the moral differences between the characters? A lot of comments on the episode complained they they’re just throwing “tree-hugging” propaganda in our faces. They’re making it more and more difficult for anime-only viewers to follow and enjoy it.

In all, even with the flaws, this episode was done better than most the others so far and I’m looking forward to seeing how they adapt the next part of the story.

Not to be a drag, but they pushed that environmentalist agenda in the VN pretty strongly as well; to the point that some people who finished reading the VN honestly thought that that was the message of Rewrite in its entirety

Oh right, I totally forgot to mention this before but there’s this one moment in this episode that bothered me way too much. (spoiler tags mainly refer to Kotori’s route but one has to also read Chihaya’s route to get the point) When Kotarou saw Kagari and ran after her, he found himself in Kotori’s base, didn’t he? After all, Kagari had in her hands one of the wooden animal carvings which means that she broke the barrier. If that’s the case then shouldn’t the Gaian girls notice the huge energy source that Kotori uses once they got past the barrier? Well, Chihaya is an idiot so it’s not much of a problem but Akane should’ve sensed it, no?

I think as long as the wooden figures arn’t broken the barriers would stay intact since kagari was only holding it and didn’t actually break the figure.

I don’t think that’s the case. (Kotori route)When Kotarou had just found out about Kotori’s base, he broke her barrier just by gathering them and moving them from where she had placed them. So just by holding it and changing the place where it was supposed to be, Kagari should’ve already broken the barrier.
Even if she didn’t, Akane and Chihaya got past the barrier from what I could see in that episode. They should’ve sensed it.
(also, s0what, you shouldn’t forget the spoiler tags~)
