Poll: Is your favorite visual novel a Key visual novel?

Right now, “eden* they were only two on this planet” is my favorite visual novel because it has one of the most interesting romantic stories i have ever read and it has one the the best endings i’ve seen too.

Rewrite is pretty damn close at being #1 but im not done reading it yet so i’ll decide on that later.

I have only read about a dozen VN’s, so I may not be able to give that appropriate of an answer, but so far, yes, Little Busters! is my favorite VN.

I haven’t read all of key visual novels, but my favorite VN stays Saya no Uta. However, key is always #1 in my heart

Air is my favorite visual novel of all time, so yes

Just noticed that my original post got eaten in the poll migration.

Key may have Little Busters!, Tomoyo After and CLANNAD, three out of my top four visual novels…

But ultimately the uncontested #1 is Umineko. It’s actually pretty difficult to compare Umineko to Key because they both mean a lot to me but in completely different ways, yet I can say without a doubt in my mind that Umineko is at the very top.

Considering all my love for Key: No.

My #1 VN is actually an “Indie” VN made by Spicy Tails (Isuna Hasekura - creator of Spice&Wolf); WORLD END ECONOMiCA *.

I could spent here eternity pointing why, so only two main reasons:

  1. Economy and stock trading - I’m really infascinated in this subject, it made me even to choose my uni! WEE* shows this word without “pink glasses” yet gives hope for meeting valuable and honest people in this harash word.

  2. Realistic Sci-Fi - just pure <3

My #1 is/will probably forever be Fortissimo//EXS: Akkord nächsten Phase (including the original AND Kadenz fermata // Akkord Fortissimo [which I still have to get my hands on] )
[/quote] I know you wrote it months ago but could you tell me how did you get Fortissimo? I was looking for it but couldn’t find anything in english, even simple script, or did I miss something and it’s possible to get somewhere?

There are no English patches, so you’d have to import it and know Japanese/use a text hooker or something to read it. Although there’s an English fan translation done on Youtube, for what it’s worth. Can’t attest to its quality, though.

That’s exactly what I did. I used the english fan translation on youtube and for all I know, it’s pretty damn good.

I know there’s a Japanese class in the University I’m planning on going, so I hope I can pull this off somehow and read Kadenz then. Because I’m really hyped for Kadenz

Thanks guys! I’ll definitely check that YT translation, thats my only option for now.

I didn’t vote, because I don’t consider myself qualified to vote. I haven’t ever played any VN…ever.
However, I read Orenronen’s Let’s Play of Dangan Ronpa and Super Dangan Ronpa 2, and I love them a lot.
So, I guess my favorite Visual Novel is technically Dangan Ronpa, but my love for the Key anime surpasses my love for Dangan Ronpa just a little. When I am able to play the Key VNs, I think I will like those more.

I’m not too sure if I could really answer ‘yes’ or not - a number of Key’s visual novels mean a great deal to me for a number of reasons, and they’re certainly up there in my favorites. I’d definitely say that Little Busters! is the visual novel I’ve enjoyed playing most in several years now, and I’ve become incredibly fond of it and deep into it in a way not many visual novels (or works of fiction full-stop) have got me.

One of the reasons I admire LB! is for the things it does with the VN medium itself - those who have played it will know what I mean. On a similar line of thought, I would probably place Uchikoshi Kotaru’s works near the top of my list (those that I’ve played, that is - Ever 17, 999, and Virtue’s Last Reward). I feel like Ever 17 especially is a VN that could only really work as a VN, due to particular elements of its plot. It takes advantage of the medium in a way that really blew my mind when I first played through.

(The one downside of Uchikoshi’s works is that while his twists and turns are really good, he does tend to reuse themes a lot - I feel like Ever 17 went in-depth to a series of ideas whereas 999 presented them in a clear and stylish manner, and by the time I got to VLR it was like ‘ah, this is similar to Ever 17 when…’. Meanwhile my friend played VLR first and had a similar but differently-ordered reaction. I think with Uchikoshi, the first game of his you play in that series will probably have the most impact.)

So the experience of playing Ever 17 and 999 was amazing in a “this is a thing that only a videogame can do” sort of a way, and I found them breathtaking. That said, I’m nowhere near as attached to the storyline or characters as I am, say, LB!, so it’s kind of… the topic says ‘favorite’ so maybe I would say that LB! is my favorite after all? It’s hard to say, really. Ever 17, 999 and LB! would be my top three, I think.

For a long time, my answer was “yes” (CLANNAD) but then MLA took that spot for me. Honestly I don’t really see anything topping Muv-Luv.

EDIT: Top 4 are MLA > CLANNAD > Umineko > LB!

Huh, don’t see too many MLA fans round here.

I always assumed every visual novel fan has played MLA lol, that game is just too much of a masterpiece to pass up

I have yet to read MLA myself. I’m waiting for the official localization and all. (And my VN backlist is super long.)

As for my favorite VN: I have the feeling I’ll love Angel Beats! to death once I actually learn Japanese enough to read it. And Dies Irae looks incredibly gorgeous, but the Japanese is exceptionally high level…

For now, I’d say planetarian. Umineko might be tied with it.

Gotta stand with this one. I’ve read several VNs, but LB is still my favorite overall.
