You completely took my point out of context. I said $10 is not gonna change whether the people who actually care about the game spend the money on it.
And no. It is not too expensive. I am sorry, but there is no room to budge on this. That is how much VNs cost today. People who say that it is too much do not understand the market. It would be like someone complaining that Fallout 4 is $60. If its too expensive, its because you personally cannot afford that price, not because thats not what it should cost in todays market.
And no, no one has spoken yet. People will speak based on whether or not they actually buy the game. Just like all the people who complain about $50 DLC for Battlefront but will still buy it anyways.

Advertising the VN at $40, and then with no warning releasing at $50 is just more ammo for the haters unfortunately.
[/quote]Yes indeed unfortunate for Sekai Project, especially considering that they had nothing to do with that advertizementā¦
While the average consumer wonāt care (or even know) Grisaia and G-Senjou both basically fixed their already existing fan translations while Clannad completely redid the entire thing. They also didnāt get graphic upgrades (G-senjou kinda but it doesnāt look as impressive as Clannad when playing) or an extra like the Dongopedia.
Grisaia launched with a 20% discount and G-Senjou a 30%. As far as I remember all SPās games have been at least 10% off for the first week. Unless you were relying on 10-30% off $40 you now have:
10%: $45
20%: $40
30%: $35.
I think 20% is most likely as 10% seems to be for their OLEVNs and cheaper titles like fault and G-Senjou is the only 30% I remember,
I think starting at a high price is a common strategy to get as much money out of your product as possible. First you get the first 10% customers who want to have the product no matter what the price is. Then after some time you decrease the price a little, so the next 20% or so customers will buy it as they now think the price is reasonable. Etc etc. It works the same with the new consoles like PS4, which start at ridiculous pricing.
However, the problem with software is piracy. When a consumer thinks the price is absurdly high, there is not only the option of waiting for the price to lower, but he can also just download it illegally and have the game immediately in his possession. Iām afraid that is the road CLANNAD will go, as most of the VN fans are used to download the fan-translated VNās from all dubious sources.
$50 is a lot, especially for the European market now the ā¬/$ rate is extremely high. Basically $50 equals ā¬50 at the moment. For me, as a student, this is 10 days worth of food. Or, as most students would put it, 50 beers
At the time of this post Clannad is the #4 top seller on Steam, above both Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 and Grand Theft Auto 5. Iām this is the first time iāve seen a visual novel on the first page top seller list.
It would make a huge difference. A ton of people backed the VN, so if this is just redemptions, thats good, but not nearly as impressive. If this is sales, however, holy crap. That would send a clear, strong message to Key.
Since bookclub has now officially started Iām gonna talk about the stuff Iām going to talk about in the individual character route threads.
To start, CLANNADās routes have a few common themes. Like many works of literature, CLANNADās title has great significance over the whole story. It has been said that CLANNAD means (or at least thought to mean) family in Gaelic. And unsurprisingly, CLANNAD has a huge focus on family. But in this context, family is not just limited to blood-related family. Here it may be defined as good friends, lovers, teachers, and even pets. I will be using this stuff later when the bookclub moves on to other routes.
Another common theme is wishes. I wonāt go into much detail with this for now but I will start with this: āWould you like me to take you to the place in this town where wishes come true?ā -Nagisa
Thereās other themes as well but ehh whatever we can deal with those when we get there. So for those of you joining us for the bookclub, have a good time with discussions! And together letās begin the long, long uphill climb!
As a student, I finally scraped together enough money and courage to spend 39.09 euros on CLANNAD. Downloading as I am writing this, it better be amazing
So I can finally join the bookclub now. Really looking forward to everything. Thank you kazamatsuri for pushing me to play CLANNAD to such an extent that I actually spend my lunch for the coming weeks on this. Letās enjoy!
Iām so excited to read through CLANNAD, properly this time. I read a good 5/6 routes on the fan-translation but the occasional slip-up or missed line of translation made it difficult to get into. That and the lack of line-wrapping. This release (that Iām freeloading off of @Bonecuss until my physical copy arrives) feels so much nicer and polished which is exactly what I wanted.
My favourite bit so far is the remastered soundtrack - They turned Dam from the worst track in the game to the best with those phat beats, and the enhanced drums and synths in most songs makes me really happy. Being able to play it in semi-HD is also really nice, even if not widescreen (though that wouldāve been a bit much to ask for). Iām only half way through April 16 so far, but I hope I can finish the whole game this time.
It has been a while since I have seen CLANNAD. Recently, I have been playing the VN since the Steam edition came out and I am very close to finishing the game. It has taken me some time because of work and other things but I am also comparing scenes from the anime with the game. I enjoy every single moment playing the game as well as rewatching the anime again. Also, the characters really flesh out well in the series that I can relate to them personally and it made me think about my own life. I have been thinking of joining the CLANNAD bookclub for some time and I wanted to express my thoughts about each of the routes I have enjoyed as well.
So got a late start and just started Clannad for the first time. After hitting the cafeteria for the first time I couldnāt help but notice something was amiss. This girl has seen something in her lifetime, something inexplicable I believe but can only speculate as to what at this pointā¦
Well she does almost seem to be excitedly fixated on that empty chair almost like she was having a conversation with someone we canāt seeā¦so common ghost confirmed?
